The Engines, DOHC? SOHC?

Hey guys,

I've always known that Mercedes V8s are all SOHC, but how about the R129s? Cause there was one site whereby this guy put in an R129 engine into his 124 and claims that it's DOHC. Is it? Only you R129 people can confirm on this. I'm a 190E owner.. thought an engine like that would do great on my car!

Thanks!

2006 Aston Martin Vantage
I am pretty sure that from 1999 and up, the SL500 had/has SOHC engines. Something to do with lower costs, better emissions and better fuel efficiency I suppose.

PCVIEWER is correct. My 1999 SL500 has a SOHC engine along w/2 spark plugs and 2 coils per cylinder.

Hey Thanks guys for clearing that up.... Always thought the DOHC engines are way better than SOHC engines so if ever change my car engine would know from which model to look for. Too bad Mercedes don't make anymore DOHC engines cause already BMW and Audi is coming out with DOHC engines for their sports models with horsepower per litreand very high RPMs. Mercedes? Bi turbos and Kompressor.... come on!! Always preferred NA. But still am a Mercedes person!

SL500 2001 Formula 1 Edition;
MB says it is SOHC

Check out this website, it shows lots of useful info:

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container...34567&menu=7_6

including that at least for 2001, it was SOHC. You can check out the other years on there too.

Hey thanks for the site. Helps! Looks like their DOHC 5litre engines had better power compared to their SOHCs. Should have kept on using them tho. Too bad not anymore.
