I always enjoy driving my R129.
Too bad that it has been raining and cold for the past 3 months. No top down driving going on for me up here. The panorama roof helps alot under these conditions.
If removing the hard top was more of a spontaneous thing ... we maybe could have gotten a few top down driving ventures in.
But I still love the power and smooth ride. Rain can't deminish that.
I hope to be taking the hard top off in about 2 weeks time. Can't wait!

See, here in New England it is 11 degrees outside and windy! In spite of that I still love driving the R129. I dropped it at the shop last Thursday for a few minor things and get it back today. I am new to these cars (just got it on Feb 15th) but I missed it this weekend like I've always had it!

Loving it!
Would be cool if we somehow got all the cars together for a meet.

79 degrees F this weekend in San Diego, California. Perfect top-down weather. But we're in for a few days of rain now. I know I won't get much sympathy from the people who are stuck with sub-zero temps.

I think it would be a great idea to get as many SLs together in the Spring or Summer someplace nice on the East Coast. Maybe a picnic in a large park someplace that would let us display our cars.
Anyone interested?

I'm new at this posting stuff so please forgive me if I screw this up! I'm in the market for a used SL 500. I've found two of them in my area. A 2001 with low milage and a 2002 Silver Arrow with somewhat higher mileage. Other than the trim on the Silver Arrow Edition, are there any other major differences I should be concerned with? Both vehicles are in great condition but the 2002 tires make a funny sound when you first start out.
I appreciate you help!
Thank you!!

Really, the only "mistake" that you made is posting off-topic. You would get a lot more attention to your post if you started a new thread (i.e., topic). Originally Posted by BenzGuy

I have a 2001 -- I love it. But there is a bit of mystique to the Silver Arrow. In the same place as you, everything other than the Silver Arrow package and the mileage being equal, I would probably go with the lower mileage.
BUT . . . if the 2001 lacks the sport package or AMG wheels I would take the Silver Arrow.

forget about the mileage.......go with the good condition one.......I like the Silver Arrow.......so I would pick the Silver Arrow.....

Hello. I'd be glad to help anyway I can. Here are some tips.Originally Posted by BenzGuy

Just fold a piece of paper in half and list the details of the two cars on each side, that way you can easily compare (list colors, options, mileage, price, etc.)
Be sure to do a background check with CARFAX. (Ask the sellers for a report, if they don't have one for whatever reason, order one; CARFAX offers a buyback guarantee.)
Go on the Kelley Blue Book website and check the values for each car; compare that with what they are offering you.
Some things to note.
Mileage is important, but these cars will run forever (just take care of it).
For $20-25K, you can get an SL500 in what are arguably the best years (96-98) to buy one due to build quality (a fellow member brought to my attention kenrockwell.com, which is definetely worth a look; the man thouroughly did his research).
Take the car, before you purchase it, to a Mercedes Professional and have it examined. These steps will reveal any possible problems with the car, and avoid you some trouble in the future.
Well, that pretty much sums things up. Good luck with your purchase. The R129 is an awesome machine that you will enjoy.

As you know,I sold my SL last months to make space for a more practical car
namely an E class wagon..Great car,but no where near an SL for the feel good factor!!
The E is as fast, more comfortable and much roomier than the SL,but it's not the same,is it?
To cut a long story short,I can't wait to get another one,and the search is gathering pace...I'm looking for a special one now, since it won't be used much like before,[600,60 or even a 73],that should make a big difference from the 300.....
