cloth covered hard top 92 sl 500
has anybody ever seen a cloth rapped hard top, i cant tell if this is aftermarket or factory...it looks good, probably somebody didnt want to paint a hard top they purchased from ebay. take a look and let me know what u think.

A cloth covered hard-top imitating a convertible top on a car that already has a convertible top? One of the stupidest mods I've ever seen. And it's ugly. Probably some dealership sold it as an option when new to pad its profits.

I'm surprised at all the negative comments about such a simple mod. Especially after some of the really extreme mods I've seen on this board. Oh well, we all have different taste. As they say, the world would be quite a boring place if we all liked the same thing.

that is true. and remeber these are our opinions. and dont take them to heart. we are all diffrent
to me that is a very redundent thing to do. but to each their own.

Well, you are right . . . to each his own. But what would you think if somebody glued a wig on the Venus de Milo???
I know, it's not the same. And we all modifiy our cars a little bit over time. But to me, the fake-convertible top/cloth covered top is a stylistic cue like from the days when most cars were crap.
It is like:
Fake wood siding on a 1975 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon.
Opera windows.
A radical and ugly graphics tape job on gutless late '70's "442".
It's like the Mustang II.
It's a pretender to something it's not. But it's even more silly because, in this case, it's NOT a pretender. There is a REAL convertible top.
Hmmm . . . okay, a fake convertible top sends the message, "I think it would be really cool if this car was actually a convertible, but unfortunatly, it's not a convertible."
It's like a woman with large natural breasts pretending they are fake.
