I need the ever popular tow hook cover

The car has the AMG appearance package and is a 2001 SL500 as you may have guessed by my clever username. Is there a dealership that sponsors the board that has some kind of discount? The cheapest I can find is 200 at a local dealer for an unpainted piece. Unpainted is fine, I can cough up another $5 for a can of spray paint.

Thanks!

You should be able to get your tow cover piece reasonably at...

http://www.parts.com

If you need to look up part #'s, you can now get into MB's StarTek EPC(Electronic Parts Catalog) at...

https://epc.startekinfo.com

Note: The signup system will ask you for a credit card #, but it will not be charged. I'm guessing that MB uses this method for id verification.

You can also have the spray paint mixed for your exact color by most auto paint and finish suppliers for around $20. Check the yellow pages or ask a local body shop where they get paint.

When you're all through with this, you might try wrapping a plastic wire wrap around the covers to secure them.

Hi Lynns,

Last February, I had MB of Ann Arbor order and paint an AMG tow hook cover for me. After waiting forever for it (they initially ordered the non AMG cover), almost immediately after I picked it up, Discount Tire had a mishap and tore my AMG front bumper on the driver's side.

They covered the costs for entire bumper replacement...and installed a new tow hook cover.

Sooo...now I have a brand new, never installed AMG tow hook cover (with mesh grill) already painted and clear coated OEM black.

I will sell it to you for $200+ shipping. I was going to place it on ebay or Craig's List.

Let me know if you're interested.

I'm very interested if it's the driver's side. Lynn won't mind. I'm missing mine and he's interested for his computer like resource bank in his head, eh, Lynn?

Curiosity: my driver's side tow hook cover (well, it doesn't cover a tow hook but it's the mirror-image of that thing in the above picture) has what appears to be some sort of antenna on it and it's connected by wire. I know this because it came loose one day and I drove with it hanging by the wire for awhile before a pedestrian notified me of its state.

Anyone know what that antenna thing is for?

It is an outside temperature sensor that then reads out on your instrument cluster.

Thanks! I always wondered where the sensor for the thermometer was. Thought it was under the hood somewhere.

Just received it and installed it with little or no problems. I'm so glad it was already painted.

MEB SL 500
I am looking for a Passenger Side, Tow Hook Cover for a 1997 SL 500 Mercedes. The part is approximately 4 inches by 10 inches and has two horizontal bars that match the rest of the front bumper. The car is white, but I could change the color if white is not available. My email is ronthring@aol.com

Tow hook cover

Sorry newbie,I see I can get a tow hook cover from various locations from as low as 125 bucks but looking at the clips to hold it in place I have no clue, maybe if I had them in hand I could figure it out but maybe here I could find out faster.

Cheers Kurt

I looked at this part from OE DISCOUNT PARTS but the picture they show looks like the older style cover. It has 3 horizontal bars where as mine only has 2. I don't know if this bumper was stock or an update but it does not match the picture of the part. I really don't want to shell out $114 + shipping to find out it is the wrong part. How can I be sure this is the correct cover for my bumper?

>$50.00 = FREE S&H. Contact them to confirm the number of fins. Remember it's an image and not an actual part like you would get from a camera JPG picture.
