Rear shocks replacement

Gents,

I am going to replace the rear shocks on my '02. The vehicle does not have ADS.

What I am struggling with is figuring out how to access the upper mount point of the shock? My current thinking is that I would have to remove the inside plastic fender lining?

Am I correct? Anyone, please describe the approach.

I was successful in replacing the front shocks yesterday and that was not too big of an ordeal.

In the 1994 model, at least, they are inside the trunk, requiring removal of the lining, and a panel behind the fuel tank. A forum search will show specifics.

I searched the forum many times but somehow the keywords I am using net in very little information

I'll have another look inside the trunk to determine access to the upper mounts....

Make sure you get an alignment.

Remove all 3 of the trunk trim panels.
You'll then see the aluminum panel which is behind the gas tank.
You can see the shock upper mounting bolts through 2 holes, but it's nearly impossible to get at them without removing the panel.
After this is out, it's a snap to remove upper nuts, jack up the car, remove the wheel and yank the shock off.

Yep, I got that far. I will take a few pictures along the way, post them on my web site and make a link in this thread for everybodies benefit. I am hoping to get to it on Saturday.

The driver side looks more accessible. On the passenger side the hole is blocked by another component (fuel pump?) which I would have to remove first. There is a 1/2 to 3/4" tube running across which would have o be reoved before the alu panel can come out. It does not look like it would contain any fluids but I am not sure what it is for. and hope it is safe to remove temporarily.

Correct.

Also it is a wise idea to wait until the new suspension components break-in and settle before the alignment for better results. I would recommend at laest putting a couple of hundred miles on the new configureation before proceeding with the alignment.

Best Regards.
