Question FSS resetting

Is there a trick to reset the FSS - I followed the directions on page 98 of manual and the best I could get is some strange numbers like 23 and 05 to come up. Help.
Thanks,
Rocco 1999 sl 500

Rocco,
I've got the instructions from MBUSA in a word document that is copy protected. I can't post it here because of size, but can send it to your personal or work mailbox. If you want this, PM me with the email address and I'll send you the file.

DFONZ,
1991 pre-dates FSS being available on your car-

Flexible Service System - FSS started in MY98

The information below is from the following site.
MBCA Technical Library - Flexible Service System

"In doing research on oil quality throughout it's "life" in the engine, Daimler Benz discovered that the breakdown in oil correlated directly with it's increased ability to conduct an electric current, or conversely, a decrease in the dielectric constant (less resistance to electrical current flow). They also determined that such driving habits as making frequent short trips, driving at high speed, and failure to replenish low oil levels can contribute to faster oil breakdown and the need for more frequent oil changes. Drum roll please....And so was born the Flexible Service System or FSS. With inputs from the oil sensor, coolant temperature sensor, engine control module and tachometer, the computer calculates the optimum interval for the next oil change and signals the driver accordingly. The exception to this system, I believe, is the 4-cylinder cars which do not have the oil sensors but utilize all other inputs to the computer. In practice, average oil change "recommendations" are between 10- 12,000 miles, but, as always, your mileage may vary."

DFONZ8,

The FSS information gathered in the other post only applies to model years '98 forward. When you trade in your '91 for a '98+, it will be useful to have. As such, the links in the other post to the instructions on reset won't work for your car.

DFONZ8,

To get to the DTC codes on pre-OBDII systems is way above my paygrade. Bob Terry, user name bobterry99, has written alot about this topic though. You might try an Advanced Search by member id to pull up Bob's extensive knowledge about this topic.
