WTB 129 Stock Steering wheel...
or perhaps a little dressier one. I have a 98 SL500 I"m working on for a friend, and the steering wheel looks really tired. I'm almost sure it's Parchment in color, (I think that's right in 98, code 265). I don't need a bag, just a nice wheel that's not all chewed up or discolored. I also don't need a $500 one in custom wood or leather. Maybe you replaced yours and you have one in the garage, or know a seller who does. Thanks if you can help...

Just FYI,
I think a 96 or 97 is the same item. Hope someone can help, I can't believe I can't find one of these. Thanks...

Try LKQ, they're one of the largest nationwide boneyards. Your best bet is to get the correct part number and color code of the wheel you need (If you give the dealer your VIN, they can tell you) and call the closest yard to where you live and talk to one of their parts guys. Good Hunting-

Thanks for the help....
but:
1 and 3 do not have parts for 129 SL. 2 does, but does not currently have anything close. 4 is apparently gone, as the site has been replaced by a domain seller. 5 appears to have a 129 SL500 and 600, but will have to check by phone, their online system won't try.
Thanks again....still hunting if anyone has one, or knows of a crashed/parted 98 129 with parchment interior.....

Still hunting....
170.460.0103. Trim code is 8F94.
Don't think I've ever had this much trouble with one. LKQ tried to tell me that this was the same up to 99, but I don't think so. I know 99 had a different airbag. Anyone else know?

I think it is now safe to say...
that there is not one of these wheels in north america. I think I should have started with an SLK search, not an SL search. Just sort of amazed, as I think it's the first time I really have struck out on somethingt like this in 20 years or so. Again, thanks if anyone can help. Anybody know of a 98 or so SLK being parted out?

Is the wheel so bad it can't be cleaned and re-dyed? Leatherique will sell the cleaners and dyes to match whatever you've got in there. You can always have the wheel refurbished; runs about $300 and the place will send you a 'loaner' wheel while yours is being re-done. Post a picture of the wheel.

Understand, but...
couple things.
I have never had really good luck with the dye kits. The black ones work just OK, the lighter colors not nearly as well. Also, leatherique's steering wheel refurb kit only comes in black. Yes, the color is coming out of it, and it's quite dirty.
As for the refurb, there are only two real choices. You can use Alan Gun, who is cheaper but has a terrible reputation on the Porsche boards (who knows when you will get it back), or the Dallas guy who has an excellent reputation. Unfortunately, it's $300 for the refurb, plus the freight (close to $100 if you Fedex it both ways), and the down time. (I have a wheel that will let me roll it around.
Here's a picture. I think this is 97/98 only, which apparently is what is making it tough. Also, I haven't tried it from the SLK angle, which I should have. it is a 170 part number after all. The color seems to be the problem.

While the wheel looks like it should clean-up, you probably know better about the in-person condition.
I understand what you meant about kits, re-dye's etc. Leatherique does offer the steering wheel re-dye kit in other colors. Go to the site, www.leatherique.com ; go to the page with the 'standard colors' to see if yours is there. They will make up the dye kit in the standard colors for $35. If their color doesnt' match, call George, the owner, and talk it over with him. He's probably forgotten more about leather and Mercedes dyes than you and I put together will ever know.

i dont know how much you are trying to spend but you can
1. have you steering wheel restored with wood and new leather for about $600 (i can provide the vendor info if needed)
or
2. you purchase them on ebay,,, for about the same price, no?
if want to stay on the cheap side... then junk yard trips are the way to go...
but i doubt you would find something in the right YEAR COLOR MODEL and CONDITION>..
