bewareca on ebay has wrecked cars he sells parts from- if he hasn,t listed one, email him for what you need. Other ebay sellers also periodcially sell the mirrors.
yes, tightening the nut on the swivel works if that's the only problem-sometimes the inside plastic retainers break and the mirror itself is loose inside the housing.-- takes longer but can be repaired.
remove mirror to access nut on back after prying apart the mirror housing-- be careful-as the plastic retainers break easily- I pry from the side with a screwdriver-- its a break away attachment for safety-- snaps back in.
each year model an be different from earlier/later years in addition to color.

1998 Mercedes SL500
1998 Mercedes SL 500 rearview mirror
I too have a problem with my inside rear view mirror. Someone at one time took the mirror apart and the 2 spring steel bands are missing. Would anyone have a mirror they've taken apart for whatever reason and kept any of the internal parts. Thanks, Jeff

'96 SL500 Sport
Mine was wobbling so I opened it up. Tried to tightened the nut down as much as I could and it still wobbled. I realized that the nut was not going to tighten down any further on the threaded stem, so I used a garden hose washer (believe it or not) underneath the nut (I just split the washer to get it on). It worked great!
