500 SL 1992
Thanx!!
That's a Swedish thing! And we hate them over here!
We have to have them by the law here!
I bought the new style mirrors and wanted the blinker in them but that would look stupid now when I have the other blinker!

This is my first forum posting ever. I hope this works.
As it turns out, my digital pictures (which are 4 mega pixels) are file size 1.6 MB. Eight times the size allowed as an attachment. So I will attach a similar car's piture. A 1998 or ealier SL 500, the same colour and interior as ours.
I can not seem to get even the 59,000 bite piture file to remain attached. So this may not have a picture at all. I'll just post the text for now.
Our 1999 SL 500 is Desert siver, Java interior, 6 disck CD changer c/w Panorama roof.
We bought in Dec 2002. With 39,000 Km (24,000 miles). Was still eligible for 3 year extended factory warranty ... so we bought that.
My wife went through a couple of months of severe buyer's remorse. $ 85,000 Canadian including taxes and warranty is a lot of money to spend on a car. Especially when we do not need two cars. She hardly ever drives.
Once we got into spring and now summer ... she is reaaly enjoying the top down driving. I almost detected a note of gratitude in her comments last weekend.
Ordinary ventures arround town now are special as a result of driving this car.
I have never had a sporty car or a convertible before ... so all is new to me.
I really enjoy the acceleration, passing power and stability of the car. Each time I have a chance I experiment with how the adaptive transmission, power delivery and safety systems responds to various driving scenerios.
Since the 1999 and later R129s have basically the same motor and power train as the new SL series (R240?) ... doesn't the R129 seem to be pretty good value by compairison?
On the R240 forum I read that people are very satisfied with the standard V8 and do not figure they need the 55 AMG.
To pay another $ 65,000 (92% more) over my 1999 SL 500 to get the new sheet metal, retractible hard top, brake by wire and Active Body Control seems to be a lot.
Don't get me wrong ... I think if money were no object, I would be ordering the SL 55 AMG.
Do you think the R129 prices will remain firm or even recover from the recient decrese with the new series comming out last year ... once more people learn what great and afordable cars the R129s are?

No I don't, I did try to put the silver arrow Grill but it wasn't the greatest, (not silverish enough) so I had all my front grill and air dame painted, which it really looks great next to the others...

For a 1998 or ealier R129 ... how have you kept your rear plastic window looking so clear? Has it been replaced?

No I actually haven't replaced the rear window, and still looks great, well hasn't seen allot of sun, maybe that has something to do with it, and I really try to keep the car clean all the time...

Just come back from having the bottom half colour coded and body styling fitted!
Rear lamps have been been replaced with the later styled ones.
