CD Changer replacement
Purchased a known "GOOD" used CD changer for my 2001 SL500, all connection are correct., but car will not recognize that a unit is installed.
Plugged old defective unit back in and this indicates on radio display.
Would there be a security code for the CD changer like the one for the radio?
Any suggestions? Thank you.

There is not a security code for the CD changer. You should be able to plug it in and play.
I had a similar problem with a CD changer that I bought off of eBay. The changer turned out to be defective and the seller replaced it with another unit that has been working fine ever since.
Also, is the new unit the correct one for the year and model of your head unit?

chtaylor, thank you for your reply and info. I was having my doubt as this is the second CD changer I have bought on eBay. I'm ready to just bag it. I did buy the correct one both times P/N A002 820 7989 Model # MC3198.
(nice boat you have)

Must have been, I'm done with it.
I see you have a 400E, I have a set of 1995 E420 rear brake pads, if they fit, they're your, just hate to dispose of them any other way.

Thanks for the offer and for the compliment on the boat! I too have an extra set of rear pads for the 400e. I bought front and rear but my mechanic told me only the fronts needed replacing. Perhaps another member could use them.

Give it one more try. Connect the CD changer to your Head Unit and turn it on then disconnect and re-connect the power supply plug on the Head unit. (Be sure you have your radio code on hand.) This would reboot the HU and recognize the CD changer. Also, if you don't want to pull out your head unit you can disconnect and re-connect your battery terminal. But, you have to re-sync all affected systems.
I had similar experience. Bought a new changer and it didn't work. I tried the re-boot procedure and it worked. I tried the procedure on my original changer which I taught was dead and it worked.
Hope it works for you.
