Engine Mount Replacement

About 50,000 Km ago - a MB Shop recommended I replace the engine mounts on my 1999 SL500 which had 200,000 Km on it at the time.
An independent mechs is said - not needed. So I did nothing.
Still going fine - when do mounts need to be replaced?

Chances are that the mounts have collapsed by now.

They collapse naturally in time even if the car sits, but even more so in usage.

I have a 1997 with 86,000 miles (138,000KM) and they were replaced this week.
Found sitting at a stop-light, there would be a slight vibration.
FYI, normally you replace the engine/trans mounts at the same time.

Open the hood, start the car, watch the engine at short and quick power .
If the engine does not pop up left and right, your good.
When the mounts start weeping its time to weep.

The mechanic I go to took a look & confirmed the motor mounts are collapsed.
How many other R-129 owners have replaced motor & transmission mounts?
If not replaced by now ... they would all be collapsed.
Does it really make any difference?
I do not want to continue to put undue stress on drive train - if that is what might be happening.
I do not experience vibrations or noises (that I have not become accustomed to anyway) ... so will replacing mounts at the advanced mileage really do much?

Shure, there are big differences. And the engine is lower than normal and the hose of the radiator rubs at some other parts.
