Wheel/Rim locks

Hi guys,

I have the original longer shank bolts for my 99 SL500. I’m looking for some wheel locks for my rims.
Do they make extended wheel locks so it’ll be flush with the original bolts? If they don’t, what is the correct part number or wheel lock for my car.

Attached is a pic of my original bolt.

Thanks in advance.

It's been said that those things snap and get stuck in the hub... a pain to remove...

You should probably ditch them for the short bolts. Wheel lock set of 4 part number is either

B66408238 or b66408233

I do like the way they look flush on the wheels.
I will keep the shorter bolts in mind.

Thank you for the wheel lock part numbers.

I have a set of the long style MB wheel locks, they are made by McGard.

The long bolts can snap if you have an idiot tightening them down. It must be done by hand and carefully.

I use the locks to make sure the MB service techs don't remove the wheels during service without my consent.

They did tighten down one of the bolts so tightly I couldn't remove it and brought the car back to them so they could remove it. It snapped. They denied removing the rims for a brake fluid flush service and I was left to use a 17mm hole saw to chew past the middle flange of the bolt so it would release from the rim.

I still like the look of the long bolts.

I do like the long bolts too. Yes, I got new tires and wheels. On the last tire they broke one of the bolts not to mention chipping the paint on my wheel by over torquing it, which they will fix. They had an older guy and young guy working on it. I saw they were putting the old center caps on and initially their manager told me that I should put them on myself but he neglected to tell his guys. They didn’t know. So I told them to take them off, then the younger guy said we need to take the wheels off again. Then he broke one of the bolts.
Also, they couldn’t find the correct replacement bolt.

I bought McGard wheel locks #27015, but they didn’t fit. I called Charles at Mercedes Classic and he said they are NLA. Which McGard wheel lock # did you go with? It’s nice to know they are long style too.

I think my numbers on my registration card have to do with my key and bolts.

Call McGard 1 800 444-5847.1

This place is a joke.
Who's going to steal the wheels off a 22 year old Mercedes?

For me, it's to keep the service techs from removing them without permission during maintenance.

I do a fair amount of work on my SL600 (check out my post/threads here and on BenzWorld).

The M120 V12 takes 11 quarts of oil for an oil change. The dealership does it for $70. It's a great deal for me plus I don't have a way to drain off almost 3 gallons of oil AND then dispose of it properly. It's a big nasty mess.

In the olden days, MB guaranteed (for any MB owner) free road service. You could call and get a gallon of gas, a jump (or they would bring you a new battery if yours was dead), or change/fix a flat. This was the deal until about 12 years ago. Then the deal was changed to; if you got yearly service totaling $150 they would still honor the old deal. So I got minor services that amounted to the annual fee. Stuff like alignment, brake fluid change and oil change.

This was all working pretty well until one service when a tech overtightened one of my wheel bolts during a brake fluid change service. They denied that they ever took the rims off. I don't know how you can flush a brake system without taking the rims off, but I wasn't keen on pressing the point.

Now I only get the oil changed. Even that is a slight issue, because it requires removal of the driver's side air box and they never put the existing nuts back on. And they sometime forget to raise the body with the ADS switch and they end up snagging the front bumper cover. I now always raise the body for whoever is doing service on the car.

Ah I understand now. Btw if you go the fcpeuro route (they're in connecticut) then you can essentially have 'free" oil changes for life with 229.5 approved oil and oe filter. Free as in the cost of shipping the old parts back for their lifetime warranty is your yearly oil change cost and that's it. I'd imagine like $5-$10 for you. Pretty amazing if you ask me

Just FYI I've done thousands of brake flushes with the wheels on the car. Once lifted in the air, the bleed screws are easily accessible from underneath in 99% of Mercedes models. The front AMG calipers with dual bleeders can be reached through the wheel spokes. There's even a special tool for the older models, the newer cars use 11mm:

Probably not the Monobloc Aero II rims with SA rotors and calipers.
