How rare are these wheels?
My '99 SL500 has AMG polished chrome wheels: there are no other AMG mods on the car. I am curious as to how rare these are, and how they ended up on this car. I'm assuming the original owner chose these from a few options when new. Is that how the AMG mods worked?
Hi, xxx
i assume someone bought the wheels, thought for the american taste they need to look more porno and polished them before fitting.
They were not sold by Mercedes this way, neither are polished wheels seen in europe, the taste here is different.
Cheers, Frank

If his are Monoblock AMG wheels what are mine called? They are chromed on the face which leads me to believe it was done AM. Also the chrome is flaking a little and needs to be redone. I am located in North Dakota USA. Any good shops near me?

Yeah, MBZ monoblocks are THE BEST. I took my 1998 E55 18" monos off my junker, and added them to my 2002 CLK 430 Cabrio.
Absolutely gorgeous, great fit, BUT unfortunately, these original OEM MBZ monoblocks are probably worth more than my car....

So I guess the chromed version is pretty rare. I really love them, but the tire shop tells me the rear ones are slightly bent. I’m told they can be straightened though.

There is no such thing as a chromed version from MB. Previous owner chromed the wheels and probably knocked off a good amount of value off them in the process.
All wheels can be repaired. A good wheel repair shop will be able to X-ray the wheels for cracks, use laser alignment machine to check for bends, strip the paint, protect, repaint and clear coat any wheels you wish.
I haven't even had the time to attend to mine yet. They have been laying there for 6 months waiting to be refurbished so I can mount them onto my W208 CLK.
Andreas. I’d kill for those two piece AMG style if they made 17” in r129 offset. As far as I can see, they did make 17”s in offsets for other MBs, but I really do not want to use spacers on my 1998 SL500. The suspension is already under enough 2 ton stress.
