SL500 to SL60

Hi,
I'm thinking of modifying my existing 1995 500SL engine & bringing it up to SL60 AMG spec. What do I need to do?
Steve

Basically, you want to bump up the power from 320hp to 380/400hp?
Hmm, tough one, what are the chances you can get hold of a 6.0 or a 5.0 AMG M119 engine? Because bumping up the power by 80hp is not easy if you want to go naturally aspirated.

Hi & thanks for your reply.
I was thinking that AMG start with the 5 liter sl engine as a base.
I know they built up the suspension & brakes but what I really want to know is what they do to that base 5 liter engine
re pistons, bore, cams, etc to turn it into a 6 liter with the increased torque & hp.

I don't know whether this model was available in the USA, in Europe & Australia it was badged as SL60 AMG. Pics attached

The SL60 has the same breaks like the standard ones. I would try to search at "Einführungsschrift SL60" to find some dokumentation about the differences. Or, in short words: Forget it, much to complicated.

The 6.0 liter M119 engine has been around since the late 80's. The first time this engine was installed in an R129 was 1989.
The car was called an AMG 500SL 6.0

Where to start? The Italians or the Germans?
It's actually really simple. Go buy an SL60 or call Renntech. Renntech has a classic division that will modify your car as you wish.

This German language document may give you some clues. It is no trivial exercise...

swap in a m113 motor from an e55 and that’ll give u around 350hp then get an air intake exhaust and tune. Should be about 370ish

I looked at the RENNtech Classic site and they have M119 CF airboxes. I didn't see anything for exhaust, yet.

You can't compare a M119 6.0 against a M113 5.5, the M119 ist MUCH faster.

Call RENNtech and ask for Mitch. They do the 6.0L build all the time and have a few at the shop as of last week.
