SL/R129: Mercedes R129 Sl600
Im from Portugal and collect a Mercedes R129 SL 600 from my father. Im rebuilding it, but now i have some problems with the ASR light. Already change the wiring system, the Throtle Bodys, but the light stills on. So i think maybe the problem its from the modules. Can you guys have a check and tell me if this modules are in the correct order and if the serial number of the modules its work on the SL600?
Picture attach.
Many Thanks

## Resetting the ASR Light on a 1996 SL600
**Basic Reset Steps**
- The simplest first step is to disconnect the car battery for about 20 minutes. After reconnecting, start the car and turn the steering wheel fully left and right (lock-to-lock) several times. This can sometimes reset the ASR light and related systems[2].
**If the Light Remains On**
- Persistent ASR lights often indicate an underlying fault. Common causes include a faulty brake light switch, dirty or faulty ABS/speed sensors, issues with the ASR pre-charge pump, or problems with the wiring harness or overload protection relay[2][6].
- Check all relevant fuses, especially those related to the ABS and ASR systems. Some fuses may be hidden under covers or panels[6].
**Reading and Clearing Codes**
- For a proper reset, you may need to read and clear error codes from the ASR/ABS controller using a specialized Mercedes diagnostic tool (like the Star Diagnosis system). Many generic OBD2 scanners will not access ASR-specific codes on a 1996 SL600[6].
**Temporary Workaround**
- Some owners report that cycling the ignition (turning the car off for 5–10 seconds and restarting) can temporarily reset the ASR light, but this does not address the root cause and the light usually returns[9].
**Note:** If the ASR light comes back after a reset, it indicates an unresolved fault. Addressing the underlying issue is necessary for a permanent fix[2][6][9].
**Summary Table**
| Step | Description |
|---------------------|------------------------------------------------|
| Battery Disconnect | Unplug battery 20 min, reconnect, turn wheel |
| Fuse Check | Inspect/replace fuses for ABS/ASR |
| Diagnostic Scan | Use Mercedes-specific tool to read/clear codes |
| Address Faults | Repair/replace faulty sensors, switches, relays|
If you are unable to reset the light after these steps, consult a Mercedes specialist for further diagnosis.
