Manifold gasket replacement problems
I am the original owner of my R129. It has always been well run and maintained. It has just undergone the replacement of the intake manifold gasket by a reputable, experienced shop, Following completion, the engine will accept some throttle in park/neutral. With the transmission in gear, and load on the engine at operating temperature, the engine will not accept throttle.The engine stalls and backfires through the intake. When attempting to restart, backfiring occurs through intake or exhaust. The engine light does not come on during these issues. Any suggestions that might not have been tried already?

Backfire thru intake generally means ignition is not happening in one or more cylinders. So you have developed an ignition problem. Most likely the mechanic messed up something during the manifold gasket work. I would start looking at ignition related issues, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wiring (order maybe wrong), etc. etc.
