Hello all, I’ve been a lifelong admirer of the R129 platform and have decided to get serious about buying one. I’m looking for a very well loved example with long term enthusiast ownership and accompanying documentation, not a random car sitting on a used car lot. I like to understand the history of my cars, to meet the owners and understand how they were enjoyed and maintained. It’s almost like becoming part of the story, which I enjoy. Below are my preferences, but I would look at others if they are an excellent example.
V8 or V12 models only Prefer ‘96 or later for 5-speed and improved EFI, and would prefer M119 vs M113 V8 Very clean paint and interior, 8+ condition No major mechanical issues, comprehensive service history Prefer sport package and xenon lights Under 100k miles Still has the original hard top
In a perfect world I’d like to find something that I could fly in and drive home because I love a good road trip. I’m an engineer and former mechanic so a few small projects are ok, but conversely I don’t want a neglected car. The cost of a R129 SL600 tuned by AMG to 440 HP is about 10000000-15000000¥ just for the car in Japan. Maybe even more if the car is in excellent condition with low mileage. Then the costs like auction fees, ground transport, sea transport, customs in Europe etc. This whole operation in quite a big money.

I can’t tell about the price for it because it’s too early. First i need to do a proper inspection, service etc. Probably some repairs.
then i will list it on MBmarket or bringatrailer. There was one car like this on mobile.de or autoscout24 in Germany. The price was sth about 150-170K €.
Looks like a very clean car that I suspect will bring good money on BaT. I’m personally more looking for something that is for sale by owner and has a good, long term ownership history. But I wish you the best of luck with your sale!
I can just make out the V12 emblem over the front wheel side vents.
I also noticed the small TUV rear wheel flares just above the bumper where it meets the arch.
Just so there is another car documented; can you post a picture of the engine, air box intakes and the resonator delete? Also, a snap of the speedo would be nice too and a treat for the users on this site.
Nothing looks as nice as the Sport bodywork in silver.

And a Bugatti, too. I saw the car at the auction a few weeks ago, but I didn't note the price. Something around 60,000 €, right? After transport, taxes, and repairs, you'd have to sell it for about 100,000 euros if you wanted to make any money on it. I'm so glad I bought mine years ago for a fraction of that; the current prices are absurd. The prices on Mobile.de are the prices at which a car doesn't sell, no one pay 150.000 € for a car like that.
Instrument cluster, rear wheels arch, some other stuff and the engine bay. I will send more Pictures in next 2 weeks when I got it. The B pillar plate looks genuine. I also have 560SEL 6.0 SOHC with similar plate with confirmed PreMarger AMG documents (I have the certificate for 560SEL 6.0 from AMG Archive). No SL600 VIN at this moment, sorry guys.
BTW. The previous owner took out one of the "0" from truck lid, so it says SL60. Of course It's SL600. I will put that "0" back, I have some spares.

The "AMG" plate with engineere's name on the engine can't be genuine. That's just some remains after the previous owner. Mercedes-AMG started to putting these sometime after 2001.
Sadly there not much of these cars in Japan. Now it’s time of 2000-2015 cars. There’s a bunch of them all the time. there were some r129’s SL70 and w140 S700 but these 7.0l are super expensive to get. 200-250k € for r129 and 100k€ for w140. That’s just insane. 100k for w140…. But after all it’s not just w140….its AMG.
its getting a bit off topic now but I'll some examples from previous r129 auctions.
1. SL55, auctioned this year, the price was about 7mln yen. M113 5,5l.
2. SL600, V12 440HP. I was bidding it but I didnt win the auction. the last price I remember was 11mln yen. I dont know the final price. It looks just like mine.
