SLR Hood

Was at a local wheel dealer and saw this hood they are selling. The stores owner has it on his SL, looked really good. Only drawback is it makes the SL look similier to SLK.

You know, I am not sure I like it better either but it may be a nice way to make your SL different.

Is is the hood and the front grill the ONLY thing that needs to be changed?

Do you know who did this and what is their name and number? It would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Question This is how I see it

I have looked at the two pictures with the new SLR type hood. The first one I loved, then when you posted the second picture I said to myself, now that doesn't look that great.

Then I started looking at the pictures and realized the first one had a SL65 bumper so it was an SL65 and the other one was a SL55 AMG and that bumper which of course is different.

To me, the nose looks so much better on the SL65 bumper than the SL55. I see no comparison.

I am very serious about getting the new hood but to me, I have no choice but to change the bumper to the SL65 bumper and sorry to say, I will have to change the wheels to the SL65 wheels as well.

To me there is a major difference between the looks of the pictures. There is no comparision that the new hood looks much better with the SL65 bumper than with the SL55.

Does it seem that obvious to the rest of you?

Would really appreciate your feedback!

Thanks,

LovinSL600

I don't think there is much of a difference; although, in my opinion it does look slightly better with the 65 bumper. I think that the lighting in the first picture (65 bumper) makes the entire car look better. I am thinking that if you took the car out of that picture and put it in the second picture (55 bumper) you wouldn't be as impressed.

Just my thoughts.

Chris,

What you are saying was my absolute first impression. The lighting in the SL65 picture is much better.

However, the more I kept looking at the pictures this is what came out for me.

The SL55 picture has the nose with the bumper that really has the same curvey lines and flows smoothly around the front of the car and smoothly around the ends of the bumper. It is a very smooth finish to the nose.

The SL65 bumper is much more aggressive and kinda frames out the nose. It does not go smoothly around the ends of the bumper but in fact has a hard edge in the fog lights so it actually abruptly stops and in my opinion better frames out the nose. I like this aggressive approach much better.

I am not sure if this is good or bad news but if you look at the SLK AMG model the Mercedes designers did the same thing on the front bumper. It almost exactly matches the SL65.

Ok, so you are now going to tell me it is making it look like an SLK AMG, well my friend, that is a fair statement and possibly one of the drawbacks to consider.

Does this reasoning make any sense to anyone?

No is the word but the same answer, no one knows for sure.

Given they are already making a slight change in the front bumper for 2006, I think this greatly decreases any chances of any further change in 2007.

I like simple and elegant. Do we see Porsche and Ferrari making these butt ugly noses?

If some people really want the nose, it should be an option to have a butt ugly nose. I sure will not purchase an other SL if it had the butt ugly nose as the only choice.

I see what you guys are talking about..It does look like SLK

I think it would look awesome if you mated the SLR hood to your SL600 and then add the SLR front bumper as well, that is what defines it more from looking like the smaller SLK, the way the SLR front bumper fills out the star area more than the puny looking SLK front end.
If I had an SL that's what I would do, It would look DAMN GOOD! Hell if they fit I would even put on the front SLR fenders as well That would blow those other versions out of the water and definitely be UNIQUE! Somebody please do this......
