Anyone get the brake recall service done?

Just wondering if anyone has taken in their car for the recal service.

If so, are they replacing the calipers and everything?

I e-mailed my dealer last week to find out what's happening but guess what? No reply.

Yes. Took my car for a first service and was told there is no recall for SL's - it only applies to the C-Class

Nothing done, no recall notice. The press overeacted, apparently, and no problems exist with the 6 cylinder or V8's or their braking systems.

Who do you believe?

I have an 03, there was a recall for the braking system, I forgot the name of it, but the system where if you lift off the gas pedal quickly, it pre-pressurizes the brakes (makes the pads real close to the rotors) in an effort to shorten the braking time in an emergency or rapid stop.

It was a software only fix, and my brakes had a funny habit of sort of "catching" at very light applications at slow speeds. That is gone, but it was very minor.

I think this system is only in the 03 sl..

I called the Service Manager a week after the press release. He said they're still waiting for MBUSA to release the list of VINs affected.

I also receive my up date for my brakes and it's only a firmware added to the computer of the car. And also it's good to hear from you again Greg Elmassian.

There was a first software update to the SBC Control Unit about a year ago after they discovered a bug in high usage cars like E-Class taxis. At the time my update was done, a pressure regulator was fitted to my car which transformed the braking performance and feel from truly awful to pretty much OK (though I'm still no fan of SBC).

The new "1.3 million" recall is said to apply to voltage regulators and SBC braking systems across a range of cars - that's the price you pay when you share components as widely as Mercedes do. I haven't heard anything either but remember you are dealing here with the Service "Advisors". These people have an incorrect job title because the term "Advisor" implies that they know what they are talking about...

Exclamation List of VIN's available...

The dealers do have the list of VIN's affected and should be able to tell you with certainty which cars are affected.

I know the V-12's are not affected and were not on the list but did not ask them about anything else.

SL's going in tomorrow for an SRS warning. I'll find out what I can about the recalls and let you know.
