If you figure the cost of fixing a scratch or dent on your sl, and compare it to the cost of the option, I think having the option will save you thousands by far!

Must Have Option
I would put Parktronic on anything Mercedes produces, even an SLK ! The MB version works particularly well, is highly accurate, and makes urban driving easier. It's the kind of option that once you get it, you will always get it.

I ordered it!
My dealerr called today and my car slot for an 06 SL600 is in B1 status, today was my last chance to make changes I added the parktronic even though I think it is not really needed on a car this size. If it actually detected curbs it would be useful, but what other posters have wrote, it does not normally detect curbs.
Oh well I will be able to try it out in a couple of months myself.

Well I have an opposing view regarding parktronic. We've had our SL55 for almost 2 months now and typically the parktronic is the first thing we turn off when we get in the car...at most traffic lights it just starts to beep. It would be better, IMHO, if the default was off and you turned it on when you were actually parking. Also, as mentioned before if it could sense curbs then the option would be pricessless.

I would never be without the parktronic feature again.
In Denmark and Sweden there are a lot of tight parking spaces where the parktronic is very useful... Actually several times a day. So that is definately one of my first choices when it comes to extras.
In the US I don't know if I would ever need it though. At least not the places I have visited "over there".

Agree with Trin. When we've US visitors one of the first things they say is everything is smaller and narrower than in the US, so parking and driving here can be a nightmare for them. I wouldn't do without it now that I've got it.
Miss it driving the Jeep.
However, anyone notice that at oblique angles the sensors don't work so well? I was reversing and thought I was getting mighty close to the another car so stopped but momentum made us touch. Had virtually stopped so no mark on either car but I'm a bit wary now as the sensors hadn't given much of a warning at all. Got wifey to walk in front of the sensors and got the continuous bleep so they're working OK.

Parktronic? Yes.....
Absolutely wouldn't be without it.
The nose of the R230 is deceptively long and the rear from cab design is hard to judge. Its hard to estimate the clearance of the nose above the curb and I have come close to rasping the bib on concrete without warning, but generally the system is a blessing.
Get it and use it - fore and aft judgment, sober or otherwise, is a fine line in this car....

Parktronic is very good for parking in the garage
Stops you hitting the wall and removes the need to put awful carpet on the wall.
Its also good around the grounds of the house to avoid kids toys, wheel barrows etc.
dont be without it.

as far as it being useful...
only when i'm dating chicks in Newport Beach... A lot of parallel parking over there.
the sensors combines with the adjusting right side mirror make it a breeze.

Thoroughly pissed with the really poor resale value here, and I'm not giving her away.
Bought a new Vito tday and need a new 320 Cdi Estate for the business, but the value as a trade on both new vehicles was unbelievably bad.
Raises a whole new issue on MBUK's customer care - the old times of good resale values have truly gone and MB is a mainstream car marketer; all new buyers should be aware of that. You lose a lot more than you used too. I guess you'd realise that from the SL55's value, still a great supercar and yet stupid over production has done European buyers no favours at all.

Drive down a sunny quiet lane with the hood down and the birds singing and all you get is a screech from the front sensors.
(yes, I know, I do turn them off!)
