I know city is 14 , I think hwy is 18. At least thats what the sticker says..
I know on my hour long test drive I was averaging 8 miles to the gallon ... um I was testing the traction on the tires...

Yes, imperial gallons, so high teens for US gallons. Keep in mind too that much of this was cruising at around 80 on France's excellent roads. I know the figure plummets in the city and if you start using the performance, though lorinser's 8mpg shows a particular dedication to depleting the world's oil reserves...

Since I am considering upgrading to a 55 I asked my friend with one what he gets.. his response was "your kidding right" ? After he stopped laughing he said he gets 13-14 in the city if he is driving it easy.
In other words if your buying a AMG benz gas mileage shouldnt matter to you ...
all of them get crappy gas mileage.

The cost of putting fuel in an AMG is the least of your worries. Over a typical ownership period, the depreciation will far out-weigh fuel and maintenance costs.

Depreciation...
Yes it worries me how people buy the top of the range SLs. If you consider the huge depreciation...coupled with if you buy it on finance you are going to be paying at least £10k more than the ORIGINAL price tag you paid....I mean that's just bonkers....or am I just too sensible?

Blimey!
I hope they were gold plated tyres! That is really expensive. No wonder people don't use their SLs everyday! I was thinking of getting an SL to use everyday - but I am not siding towards the SLK - especially considering i do around 40,000 miles a year!

It costs $120 here to fill up an SL55...

Well, I saw an S350 at my dealership, Ray Catena, a few weeks ago. I was a bit surprised to see one. I thought the S430 was the entry level. So, who knows, they might bring the SL350 here, too.
As for the tires, they can't be patched 'legally'. No tire shop in my area dare touch the rims so I can't have it patched. Dealer will not patch because of liability concerns. Z-rated tires are not supposed to be patched. So, I always end up replacing the tire when it gets a nail..ouch!

considering the cost....
Considering the cost then would an SLK55 not be better than an SL55? Would it not be cheaper to run for near same performance?
