I thought the Black Alcantara and the Black Ash wood was going to be part of the normal choices but I see from the MBUSA Build Your Own that it is not.

What is your understanding?

Don't forget to have the RennTech rear spoiler painted. I believe it comes un-prepped and not painted.

I also HIGHLY recomend the Escort SRX system...saved my *** dozens and dozens of times

You're going to have some fun now!!!!

hagerstown dealer is great. alex foltz is head of service and the best for communication about service. blinder was rated better than srx. how much is the credit for the wheels and which wheels were with the stock order?

Blinder Is Only Laser Shifter. Srx Is Both Radar And Laser. Had Standard 18 Inch Wheels For 2006 Sl600 However I Never Saw Them. Credit Was Less Than I Thought It Should Be $1500.

Trimmer2 and mantylar:

Where did you have the display of the SRX mounted? Do you have any photos of your installation?

I mounted the warning light between tach and speedo just below the reset button. I mounted the mute button just behind the traction control button on the driver's side. I'll try to attach a picture but, if it doesn't go through, send your email address. RennTech did the installation and it was almost a 1.5 day install but, it's perfect!

The control module is in the center console and I don't know what a "kill switch" would be unless it's a new option in the last year.

If you look at the picture, you'll see where I mounted the mute button just behind the ESP button on the left of the console. It's very handy to reach as I actually use it a lot.

The speaker is mounted on the driver's side just above the brake.

In order to mount the two laser receivers and radar receiver in the front grill/black mash, an aluminum bar was constructed and painted black. I've tried to take pictures in the past but, it's so not noticable that none of the pictures came through.

Trimmer2,

From your photo, it looks like you have a single (and very small) warning lamp. The photos on the SRX website show a couple installations in which the entire display has been mounted. While I prefer the aesthetics of your installation, do you miss any of the visual information that the full display gives you or do rely mainly on the audible warning?

I've used Escort Detectors for many, many years and the interface is very similar to the 8500. I've found once I've set up my personal preferences like volume, start up, city, highway etc, etc...I don't make any other adjustments. Typically here in Fort Lauderdale/Miami I keep the system in CityNoX and it works great on I95, Turnpike and around town with very, very few false alarms save for a few Walgreens.

As with the 8500, the closer to the radar source, the faster the light blinks until a solid red appears (when no radar detected, the light is green) and the volume and intensity, or beeps increase until a solid tone comes on for a very close source. The mute button is always handy for the noise distraction but the light still works the same when muted.

So, I don't miss having the control unit in sight at all. If you need to make an adjustment to your personal settings, just open the top of the center console and change it at the next stop.

It's a very, very clean install and it works great!

Since I Live 6 Months In Va. Where Detectors Are Illegal, I Dont Want Police To Be Able To Find It. Kill Switch Is Just A Switch To Turn Off The System So I Cannot Be Detected. I Wish Module Could Be Put Where It Would Be Difficult To Find. Thanks Tom

According to Escort, the system is undetectable by law enforcement.

From the Escort Website: "Completely immune to the VG-2 "detector-detector"

Maybe use one of the unused buttons behind the shifter depending on your options?

By top center console, I presume you mean where the mobile phone resides. Is there room in there for the SRX control unit as well?

The unit is mounted inside the lower part of the console, not where the phone cradle is. We used velcro to secure it to the inside passenger side wall so it's easily seen and accessable when the console top is open. I haven't had any problems with the system or it's install...again I used RennTech in WPB and probably wouldn't trust a local installer as it was very complicated and obviously, RennTech knows the Mercedes inside and out... My dealer in Fort Lauderdale didn't offer Escorts or install them as they are a K1 dealer... RennTech is an Escort dealer/installer in WPB.
