Will it last? I remember you were a champion of playing devils advocate with the reliability of the electronics :o

pilot20: Porsches may be more fun, but they don't have any soul, at least, we'll see until the 998.

Mercedes all the way!
ho ho, the moment i saw pilot20's nick i had an idea he would be recommending something else to this forum

anyway, i completely understand all your sentiments. i had a bit of scratched leather on my W211 (!) seats when it was 3 months old -- almost invisible, and near where my butt goes -- but i was ready to get myself a new one then and there! i didn't though, not with the crazy tax regime in malaysia which ensures car prices are about 300% more than in the USA.

I'm not shilling for Porsche. I was simply responding to someone who was considering a 911 (see above) and giving him my advice and driving impressions of the car.

Ricky: Soul? My R129 had no "soul" either. The Porsche puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Something the SL never did. If a car is no fun to drive then what's the point?

I never found Porsches appealing. Sorry bro.
R129's though, it never made you smile?!
That upsets me.

Well, Ricky boy, when you're old enough to drive one you might understand.

ricky, i don't know how old you are, but you are spot on. iv'e owned a 944, a 944 turbo, (which i loved) and bought my wife a 1990 911 conv. as her dream car. with the exception of one drive to mexco, south of sa felipe, when i was in a pissed off mood, iv'e got to say daily driving of the 911 was a pain in the butt. we traded it for a jag xk8 conv. and enjoyed that a whole lot more as a daily driver. there is no comparison to the sl600 re: the porsche.
