Switching RIMS

I decided to switch the rims on my 06 SL600 from the new sport package rims (twin spoke) back to the turbine style that was on the 05 sport package.

I just like the look of them and they seem more unique.

I am thinking I will put the other rims on my 96 SL if that is possible, I will have to find that out. Anyone know for sure if that can be done.

I also like the turbines myself, it makes it the car seem like it is in motion. But I'm sure it won't be long until you switch them out and put DUBS in. or maybe 19 front and 21 back. My friend has that combo, it's awesome. it gives the car a tilt, aggressive look.

Gorgeous, but you knew that. Unique is the key...was parked next to an S55 sedan in the lot at work and it ahd THE same exact F...ing rims as my new car...grrr. I'm going to wait until it's time for new tires though, then switch out to whatever seems hot then...I bet it won't be too long though...took her to Los Angeles yesterday....sweet ride, and 19.5 mpg is acceptable. Over 400 miles until gassing up.

i like the double spoke amg rims. i was going to switch from my 03 sl55 turbines to them. maybe you should consider having them painted to match sl65 anthracite center style. they do match the s55, etc rims now used on amg though.

Ah, so they are facing different directions on opposite sides of the car. I wonder if that was a mistake by MB?
I think the turbines look better on the SL600.

Sorry, never like the turbines...

Sorry to say, I never liked the turbines so anything different I would vote for.

Just my opinion, sorry.

I agree with Lovin. Yech, they look so cheap and alloy..and it flaunts it. Imo, alloy rims should never be seen on a mercedes benz. I think you should have the new ones chromed instead. From a quick glance they dont look any different than the GM rims offered on the Chevy cavalier and beretta.. http://www.stmattcpc.org/images/c4c/recipient4.jpg

I don't think they are that bad, just not suited for a car like the R230.

steve, i agree with rad, the two spoke design is nice, but it's on everything. my wife's rational was typical. "which has the most chrome surface". the turbines were in. but i do not regret it. i know yours arr alloy, but when she pulls out for work every morning, i think the wheels just pop with chrome on black.

The wheels on the S55 are 2 piece 19" wheels and not the ones shown on this thread. When you see the 2 side by side there is a significant difference.

Keep in mind that the AMG type IV wheels are 2 piece with the outer rim being polished and the centers graphite on the SL65 or silver on the optional 19" wheels. I really don't know how you could paint the 1 piece wheel centers and have it look right.

Just Got A Set Of The Turbine Rims

Hey -

Those are sweet - I just bought a set including tires on EBay for 2K including shipping. Total miles 300, guy bought an SL600 and put 19" rims on the car.

Is that a good deal ? The tires are the Pirrelli Rossi and they have some bad reviews as far as ride goes. But the rims are sweeet...

Thumbs down

I like the turbines a lot more over the twin spoke. You see the twin spoke on all new amgs now-a-days, just not very original =/
