Annoying Keyless go warning
Dealer says they can't disable the annoying ringing that ahppens every time you turn off the ignition using the keyless go, reminding you to take the key when you leave...well duh, that's why I leave it in my pocket. Trouble is, then when you leave the lights on (something you really want to be warned about, since there is no automatic shut off of the lights in a MBZ if they are left on...like most other cars have), well you run down the battery. Is dealer just ignorant of how to disable this useless warning beep and message, or is it another truth that is to stupid to believe about these cars? Anyone have more info? Thanks in advance.

Dont see any of these problems.
My SL is EURO model, and if i leave the keycard in the car, nothing happens. The car is silent. I never heard an alarm, only when i forgot to turn off the light, and opens the door, then a peeper is sounding. On my light switch, there is an AUTO mode, where the system automaticaly identifies the need of light, and turn on and off the light without any manual interference.
Are your car´s different ?
Also in the info display there is an option to activate driving light, whitch means that everytime you turn on the car, the light is turned on and vice versa.

You could ask the dealer to recode your instrument cluster for "rest of world" instead of Europe (they'd have to do the coding from scratch, as if they had a new cluster and the old one had completely failed) - and see if that gets rid of that warning - it would also get rid of some of the seatbelt warnings and the warning that tells you if the driver/passenger unclips their seatbelt once they have put it on.
I've a Euro car, and mine tells me if i've left the keys in the ignition (but ignores the keyless go key if I used keyless go). But I tweaked mine slightly :-) I also have clock in the right hand display (aka SLR, aswell as on top of the dashboard, and the USA warnings about seatbelts being undone, but without the audible pinging noise (that only happens for 5 seconds if you start without seatbelt on) - since it's good to know if one of the kids undoes his/her seatbelt when I pull up somewhere and then decide not to stop
I foolishly sold my spare cluster, so I dont have anyway of playing now, so I cant work out if theres any other nice stuff to play with in the SL cluster (and I dont plan to play on the real car!)
Cheers
Richard

Try
I will try it again when I get back in town in a few days. What I tried was putting the key in my pocket, opened the drivers door, heard the annoying beep, hit the buttons on the steering wheel. I hit each one of them hoping that one would turn the annoying beep off, but that didn't happen. I didn't bother starting and stopping the car to see if that worked.
Need to hear from RADSTEVE to see if it works on his 06 600.

In the end I am not positive but this is kinda what I remember.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem as you -- that I don't have this problem with my '03.... But then I've trained myself to do the seatbelt/lights on and off stuff without even thinking about it.....
I do hope you guys figure it out. And I am following the story to see how it turns out.

My SL600 is an 04 and it definitely has the annoying alarm. I think it’s only in cars with Keyless Go. The car is currently in storage for the winter, so I’m unable to test whether pressing the steering wheel buttons silences the alarm.

wheel buttons don't do the trick
Well, back in town today and tried starting the car, then I turned it off (keyless go of course) and again the annoying ping ping and "Don't Forget Key" message...duh. THEN I tried the buttons on the left of the steering wheel (both the multifunction and the up/downshift buttons)...no luck...then the right...no luck. Looks like the Steering wheel buttons don't cut it on the 06 600. Back to square one.

See below thread; apparently on some 06's (CLS's) it works...go figure

after reading that thread, I'm gonna try the reset button on the instrument cluster..not particularly convenient, BTW, but I'll try at lunch and report back.

reset button does not work...but I found what does, sort of
No, the reset button on the instrument cluster does nothing with regard to the "Don't Forget Key" pinging....however, I found that if you press the lock button on the outside door handle, the pinging stops, and a red warning "check door" comes on instead, but no pinging, of course this red warning message goes out when you shut the door, and then press again to lock. HOWEVER, this still won't keep you from leaving the lights on, I suspect. So, it's sort of a solution, good if you're valeting and want the pinging to stop...because then you really will be leaving the key in the car. Whatever.

(I have the newer cardless version that uses the "smart" key sensor). SOOOO, when you don't notice, you come back and have a drained battery...thankfully there are two batteries, and that for the lights is not the same as for the ignition. I checked a couple other forums on here, and disabling the alarm doesn't sound like an option.
There are all kinds of settings on these cars that are not released to the buying public and probably for a good reason. Have you ever seen a semi computer literate person try to out fox windows and totally ball up everything? My wife is a master of it and is perhaps the reason that many of the codes are dealer only.
