I wonder if anyone here did a HID conversion for their fog lights?

I'm thinking about getting a set of those aftermarket 9006 kit and install them on my car.

Any thoughts on that?

The installation would be easy, but requires getting the trim panels off from under the car, as 90% of our underbody's are sealed with plastic covers for aerodynamics.

I do not think there will be voltage issues, as I've done this on numerous late model BMW's. Any good HID kit is plug and play...it plugs right into the harness without issue.

However, on my 2004 CLK500, in switching my fogs to HID's, I did get an error message and had to have the ECU flashed to read "Xenon's present."

I'm in the middle of a daytime running lamp change project, but HID's will be my next project. If I can garner enough interest from 10 people here, I'll put together a group buy with my contact/provider/sponsor.

Expect to pay around $350 a set.

That sounds good. I have been looking on ebay and so far the better kits (Hella ballast) runs between $250 to 350. Can you share info on the component of the kits once you have them?

thanks

Question: Where did you get your ECU flashed? I live on the west side and I have been going to Beverlyhills Mercedes for warranty repairs. So far they have not impressed me as easy to work with.

I go to Kevin at Mercedes Benz, Laguna Niguel. He is a modifier at heart and knows these cars inside and out.

As for the parts list, I've found two ways to do this so far:

One is using the HID kit I mentioned above...stay tuned on that.
Two is to simply buy a whiter version of the 9006 bulbs, such as those offered by Silverstar or sold online (about $40).

In either case, it'll give us what we want, the only question remaining is whether or not the HID fogs require some sort of ECU flash.

I'm hoping they're 5000K or 6000K...but its academic because insofar as the bulb options go for foglight replacement bulbs, the only commercially available options are 5000 and 6000K.

I have a set on the way which includes everything you need for a Plug N Play installation. All you need to do is run a power and ground cable from the battery, the rest is fairly easy, if you don't mind getting your car off the ground to access the undertray.

Write up to follow.

I did convert mine to HID,If I remember correctly just buy a regular set plus a set of code canceler and you all set. I also convert all the interior lights to LEDS as well. Let me try to get some photos in a few days if its something you might like.
