2007 SL55 @ 517HP and 531 lb-ft
I just noticed that at http://www.mercedes-amg.com they now have the 'new' SL55 which I presume to be the 2007 edition for the U.S., as the 2006 in the U.S. still has the old pref figures. They have it at 517HP and 531 lb-ft of torque.
The only odd thing I noticed is that the 0-60 time is still 4.5 seconds. Higher HP, higher torque, same 0-60, but a comparison shows 20 kg / 44 lbs higher curb weight however that could just be a euro version of measuring curb weight versus U.S. measurement, but if they're measured the same, it could explain how higher HP and torque lead to the same 0-60 time.
I don't own a R230 yet, so I don't know what exactly has changed with the exterior and interior styling, so SL owners, I'd be interested to hear from you.
I'm in the market for a SL55, and I've been waiting to see what all the chatter has been about the 'newer' model.
In another post, someone mentioned that if they're going to bother to increase the HP/Torque, there is no way they are putting a new engine in the 2008 model. I think it is definately possible as they're probably trying to make sure their sales for the 2007's don't lag as people like me wait it out for the SL63. It might just be an electronic adjustment that leads to higher HP/Torque and really costs them nothing .. it is after all the same engine.

SL500 /Porsche 997S/Porsche Cayenne Turbo
I believe the pictures shown at the AMG website are of the "revised" 2007 version. The only differences I can see are different tail lights (although I think the Euro versions are shown) and a different front grill with one less fin. From all the "spy" photos I have seen, I noticed only those two differences. I guess if you put a 2007 next to a 2006 other very subtle changes may be noticed, but nothing major.

According to the AMG representative I spoke to at the MB booth at the LA autoshow, the SL63 will be a naturally aspirated V8, approx. 515 HP and will be out as a 2007 model starting this Summer. It will have only slight cosmetic changes (no SLK nose) and will be the replacement for the SL55, which will be discontinued. I did not get specifics as to exactly which engine the SL63 will have. He also mentioned that pricing would be comparable, if not a bit lower than current (2005/6) models for both the SL550 and SL63. He ball parked a "well dressed" SL63 at $125K
This information is from a "loosely" translated German site, www.jesmb.com . It looks like a mid-year face lift to accomodate the new 5.5 litre engine and relatively minor interior and exterior changes.
28.12,2005 SL Facelift starting from 16.01.06 orderable
The Facelift of the SL is starting from that 16,01,06 orderable. The following points were changed:
- tail lamps in clear glass optics with white "strip" (see photos of the last new message)
- new front apron with fog headlights with chrome edge (front apron see also photos below)
- high-quality interior materials (more finely grained surfaces, nobler leather)
- button for manipulationmanipulation manipulation made of metal
- new key (like s-class)
- more comfortable trunk loading possible by changed system for the raising of the verdecks (with opened verdeck)
- new engines (SL 350 with 272 HP, SL 500 with 388 HP, SL 600 and 55 AMG with 517 HP)
- 7-G-Tronic "sport" with switching paddles at the steering wheel and sportier tuning
- allegedly improved sound of engine
- other interior clock and/or somewhat changed instrument panel
- other entrance borders
- new rim Design
- new lacquers
- new interior colors

Will it be enough? I don't know/don't think so. But the new 6.3L NA motor is a honey, and so is the new 7-speed gearbox...so should we really be complaining?

What about the brakes?
Since the E Class sounds like it will lose the SBC brakes in the middle of this year when the 2007 begin production, I wonder (and hope) the same will happen to the brakes in the SL.

' tail lamps in clear glass optics with white "strip" '
I think that will be just the non-AMG SL. I think the SL55/65 AMG will have the "smoked" rear light strip.

something fast
Spoke with a friend who is a sales manager at a dealer in nj, he said he was in a corporate meeting with the head of north america (rob allen's boss) on the new s - class. the s 63 wont be out for another year and it will have a twin turbo charged v-8 making 550+ hp. I guess this will go into the sl and cl, no word on the e or cls, I think they will get the na version.
