can you guys help me?

Hey guys I am on the CL forum, and need some knowledge on SL's because I may be purchasing one of these as well. I know a lot about the CL and its options, but not so much about the SL. I need to know what to look for as I am buying a used one.

I am thinking of an SL55 or an SL600... I like the performance gear on the 55, but for $6500 I can get a renntech ECU and have a crazy amount of power that just cannot be duplicated on a 55 without spending like 20K. Even then I will never get the torque. The SL will already handle better than the CL I am used to, so I am not sure I would really care about the extra available in the 55. Also I have a SL55 brake setup sitting in my basement that should bolt up to the 600. I figure get a 600, a renntech ECU, an Eisenmann exhaust, some nice wheels, put on the 55 brakes and be done.

My questions are:

1) what are the differences between SL's in 2003,2004,2005? Is there such a thing as a 2003 600?

2) what are the options available? on my CL it was AMG package, keyless go, trunk closer, TPS, Distronic and Parktronic. Is it the same on SL's?

Any advice is appreciated... Thanks a lot and looking forward to be contributing here soon too...

also, do all SL's have LSD? And does anyone know when there will be a body style change? I am not talking about this year's facelift. I am talking about a new SL.

Brakes are the same between the 55 and 600. Just the 55 has AMG labels on it.

Same options as the CL listened, minus the trunk close, plus panoramic sunroof and heated steering.

The 600 brakes are the same on any year? are you sure about that? I think that may only be 05 and up. Also do you know what the panoramic roof listed for? Thanks!

Yes, only difference is our 600 rears are not cross drilled. R230 600 only has been made from 04 up.

something fast
Also for 2005 the sl's got the upgraded command with dvd nav and the 04's had free scheduled maintenance.
options on the sl 55 - bixenon lights, keyless go, ventilated seats, pano roof, parktronic, distronic, sirius radio, phone, and now the performance package
for the 2006 the black nappa leather which is a $3700 option

the sl 600 has bixenon and ventilated seats standard - its options are pano, parktronic, distronic, phone, sirius - no cost on 06's, black nappa leather and of course sport package. for 2006 the sl 600 came standard with keyless go, 05 it was an option.

Auraraptor, is this only on the 600? the 500 has smaller brakes then?

The cars are nearly identical, except the SL600 is faster at any speed. The suspension is not that noticeable and the 600 interior is jaw-dropping. I mean come'on...even Dodge Chargers have V8s, yet very few manufacturers carry the V12. The only reason I think someone would choose the 55 over the 600 is A)they did not know the 600 existed or B)they feel the ///AMG badge means something. The 55 is no more sportier than the 600, both are heavy GTs, the 55 was excellent marketing by DCX. The bottom line is this:

If you get the 55 you will always be looking at the 600's taillights.
If you get the 600 you will always see the 55 in your rear view.

Nuff said...my $0.02

V12 + single ECU mod = 650 H.P.

You get slightly better than 65 acceleration at a dirt cheap price. There is no better bargain in autoland than that.
