Courtesy Motors Extended Warranty

I've been shopping around a for a few days and it seems that J Park at Courtesy has the best deal:

2003 SL500 47500 miles
Max warranty program (even includes seals and gaskets) from DaimlerChrysler
Total 7 year 85,000 mile warranty with $50 deductible $2565

Sounds pretty good to me. However, before I go ahead and pay for it, I wanted to see if anyone has had a bad experiance with them or Daimler Chrysler Warranty (I have heard plenty of good stuff and I'm not concerned about the delay in the warranty showing up at mbusa)

He didnt know if the ABC SPORT was specically covered. Has anyone had a claim re: the suspension? Was everything covered?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Don't know about the company;

I'd suggest reading the small print, for example, do they require an inspection before they accept the car under warranty?

What clause do they have that says "If it's not specifically EXCLUDED, it's covered" or vice versa?

As for ABC, yes, my 10,000 mile old SL600 is in the shop exactly for this right now.

Price of the warranty seems about $1000 high, given what I've paid for warranties on other cars...however, they were all $50K cars so it might actually be in the ballpark. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

FYI: This 10,000 mile old SL600 is in for it's third tranny fix. After two valve bodies and an electrical relay fix, they're now telling me it's new tranny time.

One more tranny issue and this thing is going back as a Lemon!

Wow, that is bad. I just picked up my SL for ABC problems. (one of the shocks was leaking)

I also spoke to J again and turns out that the air suspension is included.

FYI other quotes I got were around $3500 - $4500 for apples to apples programs.

Extended Warranty

I purchased one from their company last year. I got their best policy with $100 deductible per visit. The policy has paid for itself already. The policy couldn’t be any easier to use. No paper work on my part and just a phone call from the dealership to get the OK’s. My service adviser is amazed at how good the policy is and how agreeable the warranty company is. I paid about $3600 for my policy for a car with 74k on it. Policy is good to 125k and almost 3 more years. Also it is transferable. A big plus when selling the car. I also bought another policy for my 03’ SL500 from another company that I have not had to use yet because I’m still under factory warranty. If I could I’d change this policy to Courtesy’s DaimlerChryslers policy. You got a good price on the policy. I would just look for to extend it to 100k for a few extra bucks. Good Luck.

hmmmmmmmmm

I'm glad I came across this thread, thanks onekuv110-

My 2003/500 is right at about 43k miles and i've been wondering what i'd be looking at down the road as far as selling it out of warranty.

The $2500 price sounds pretty good to me if it covers suspension and the roof, etc... Did you get a price on a warranty up to 100k miles by any chance? or do they not offer one?

How do these compare to the original factory warranty as far as coverage, etc?

It was indeed the maximum care product.

FYI if you car goes over 48K miles then it doesnt qaulify for that particular deal/program.

J quoted me a 7 year 100K miles at $2905 for $100 deductible and $3485 for $0 deductible.

In hind site the 100K is better for 2 reasons:

1. its only another $350 for 15,000 miles.
2. The policy is refunable on a prorated basis, so if I dont use it, or if someone is hagglinf me when I sell it, I can get a refund.

Jays phone number is 530.345.9444, hes not there till thursday. Please let him know Aamir sent you.

Extended Warranty

I asked the same question before I purchased the plan. MB is the only place I've brought my car to since. No problems, just service.

perfect

well i'll be taking my car in next week to address the list of things that are a little off and the brake recall issue...

i'll ask my service guy what he can do for me on the warranty. if he can't step up, i'll call your guy on the east coast. do you think he can set me up over here in CA?

this warranty is transferable, right? my main concern is to cover myself when i go to sell it at 55k miles with no factory warranty.

If you live in the same state as Courtesy Motors then you'll have to pay sales tax. While you pricing, compare Mercedes Benz extended warranty verses the DC extended. I found the diffence to be about $1k in favor of DC. Plus the DC appeared to cover more and can be used at the service shop of your choice not just a MB dealership. Good luck.

Just spoke with Jay

ok, i just spoke with Jay and am looking at a 7/85k for $2340. which is just 3 years from now for me. so a 3/85 and it's the Max Care from DC.

or for $400 more I can bump it up to 100k miles, but i'm more concerned with the years than the miles.

the 4/100k that i was looking at would cost me $4500 from Millinium. About twice as much for that extra year.

what do you guys think? i'm mainly concerned with resell options.

any thoughts?

looks like you shouldn't buy a extended warranty until the last 1-2 months of you original warranty since the extended warranty starts on the day you purchase it. is this correct?

Generally speaking, you're correct. But the other factor is that the longer you wait to buy the ext warranty, the higher the price because the warranty seller has the heavier leverage in the supply/demand seesaw. I can't say how much the price difference is, but I'm sure you can give them a few scenarios on year, make, model, mileage, and get their prices for each scenario, then compare the various prices as a close indicator of what you would be facing down the road as your factory warranty ages.

I did exactly this in 2003 on my SLK and the price difference was significant in my case. That is, if I chose to wait until my factory warranty was about to expire, the price for the 4-yr/100K 3rd part warranty would have been very high in comparison. I ended up getting the MB ext warranty at a good, negoitated price, mainly because it covered the roof, and many other 3rd party warranties did not cover it or were very vague about it.
