Location of Factory Sirrius Radio Antenna Install?

Is the Sirrius antenna now being installed at the factory on the car ? If so, at what location on the car is it being installed (trunk, etc.)? If it is dealer installed can the factory antenna be placed in an inconspicious location?

Thanks again for your help.

John

At some point in the 2005 model year they stopped allowing the dealers to install Sirius Radio. If you have a car before then it should be pre-wired except if it is too early on.

After that point Sirius Radio is installed at the factory with a small antenna color painted to match the car and placed toward the center of the trunk. The antenna is mounted with a hole through the trunk so you can not take it off.

If you have the dealer install your antenna the most comon place is in the air vent in front of the windshield on the drivers side. This is only on cars prior to sometime in 2005.

Hope this helps.

Are you saying that if I order a 2007 SL55, I'm forced to receive it with that ugly antenna on the trunk? I guess the best option would be to live w/o SIRUS because I won't buy a car w/ that antenna on the trunk.

That is what I am saying. It was that way for 2006. Obviously, no one knows yet for 2007.

If you look at MBUSA you will see further proof of this. Go to "Build Your Own." and you will see that for 2006 SIRIUS is only listed as an option and not an accessory. In 2005 it was listed as an option and an accessory. Even then, the SIRIUS was installed at the VPC's and not in Germany. Now they are installed in Germany.

As I said in a previous post on the same subject: I thought it would be a fate worse than death to have that trunk mounted Sirius antenna on the trunk of my beautiful new 2006 SL 500. It really hasn't. It just sort of disappears and having Sirus has been one of the most pleasant surprises of owning the car. It is very nice to listen to music that I want to listen to via radio with almost limitless variety without hearing mortgage, penile enlargment and hair replacement ads every 2 minutes - remember I live in LA where all of those items are of the utmost importance -

I have SIRIUS. Its OK, but not good enough IMO to have that antenna on the trunk. I can't agree with you on this one. The dealer who wants my order will need to make sure when I order my car, that the factory in Germany doesn't install the antenna. I don't see how hard it would be to make a note of this and make sure it isn't done.

Question -- If you don't select SIRUS, the antenna won't be there right? As in, its not factory installed on all cars?

If you don't order the SIRIUS radio you won't get the antenna.

I wouldn't count on ordering SIRIUS and getting Germany not to put on the antenna.

I doubt it will be standard in 2007 but one does have to wait and see.
