New Member Needs Advice

hello everyone,

i am new to this site and just started reading your knowledgable posts. i just purchased an 06 SL 500 White/Stone. i would like to enhance the looks of the wheels and need suggestions on what to get and where to get it. (would be easiest if it were local ) i would like a bigger more aggressive looking wheel. since you guys have seen many combos your suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Welcome to the "club" ! There are a zillion possible wheels for your new SL and probably almost as many wheel sources to utilize. A good start might be the Tire Rack ( www.tirerack.com ) where you can visually place various wheel styles on your specific colored SL. Start there and you can begin the process of seeing what's available and what you like. Once done you can then proceed to numerous specific manufacturers that specialize in various styles.

Welcome and congrats on the new ride!

If you want an agressive look Id go with HRE, Iforged, GFG.. nothing but 20's with a nice fat 4 inch lip.
I am running 20" Iforged Daytonas 20x11 and 20x9.. 4 inch lip in the rear.
Dont worry about a harsh ride with 20's, you cant tell the difference over stock

If you are conservative then I would go with some 19 inch AMGs or the 18's..

Thank you all for your advice and thanks for the pics also. I still can't make a decision because there is an overwhelming array of choices. Then once I choose a rim what size and brand tire should I replace it with? How do I determine the size of the lip? Is that the 8.5 or 9.5 designation on the rim?
Sorry for all the questions.

You have great taste "blazing". I love the combo with the light wood. Also the black Panorama top that I have on mine (don't know if yours has it) stands out very nicely.

Don't worry about the tires for now. A regular driver will barely notice the difference between brands. Decide on the wheels first.

Lip size is determined by the width and the offset. Huge lips on wheels is the "in" thing now, so just ask your wheel guy that you want a huge lip setup.

The 8.5 and 9.5 is the width designation on the wheels. You can fit a 20x11 wheel in the rear on the R230.

Price is also a huge factor. Let us know what you are willing to pay and we can help narrow the choices down.

I am personally going to go for the following rim:

The largest size is a 19" rim.

Sweet, huh? Wald S13...I've been quoted 3699+freight

The lip sizes are 2.5" in the front and 3.5" in the rear. Weights are 28 and 29lbs, respectivtely.

Any sponsors want to start up a group buy for the Wald S13?? These wheels would look awesome on a SL.

yea, very sweet looking rims - looks like they have the same type of diamond cut machined finish like the Lorinsers I have on my SL - and a lot less money!

I know Derrick sells Wald... shoot him an e-mail at sales@d2autosport.com and see if he'll start a group buy on Wald products.
