SL 500 vs Maserati Spyder

Hello guys!

I'm considering buying a 2 seat convertible car....and my first thought was the maserati spyder. Look sweet and defenitely has a sport soul.

Now I just saw a SL 500 in the street (a bit rare, since I'm in Brazil) and MAN! WTF!!!! HUHUH!! DARN SWEET RIDE!!

so.... to you guys,

what are the advantages of SL over the spyder:??

thanks,
azp.

These are two very different cars. The Maser is a much wilder care-free car on the road compared to the German iron SL. The SL of course will be more reliable and just function better as a daily driver. Styling? Hmmmm I'd have to go with the SL just because it is somewhat newer than the Maser. I'd say you have to drive them because they're so different and then decide on all the other factors, your criteria.

I´ve already driven the maser. The engine is so great. The responses are very good;

But, for the same $$ , is the Benz a cheaper car to maintain?
Couldn´t drive the SL, but the interior looks so hot......

i dunno, the maserati styling, especially on the convertible, just.. is akward.. it looks very ill-conceived from the start.. the GT body kit helps a little bit, but all in all, imho it just looks very clumsy looking.. not sure what the designers were thinking..

well...to be honest,

I prefer the SL looking...

But maybe MASERATI brand is more exclusive than the BENZ....

I´m sure that both cars are amazing. The design of SL is great. The Magic around the name "MASERATI" is supernatural.... =)

The idea is : Big Rims. Crome finish.

Witch car do you think fits better to de 'DUB' idea?

Ah...just one more question: don´t you guys go mad when you realised that the front of you car look just like the front of a C-class or a CLK-class?????

It drives better, with better steering feel and feedback. Definitely more on the 'sport' side more so than comfort.

Personally, I would take the SL for daily.

Both depreciate, but the Masi does so like throwing keys out of a leer jet.

Id take the Maserati, simply because its more of a sports car and they are SO exclusive you rarely see them. My only gripe is that they change the tail lights back to something similar to the 3200GT that was only sold in europe.

New Maserati..

If you wait a year I hear the Maserati will be a new spyder with a hardtop convertible - that will truely rival the SL as the ride in the soft top spyder leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree though it is more exclusive than the SL and there is something alluring about the tridant - but i believe the current Spyder does have more reliability issues than the SL (and that is saying something!). If they iron this out with the new one it will be an awesome beast.

My guess is that the Maserati is exclusive because not many people want them at their MSRP. Before you buy, check out how much depreciation you will take on a 1 year old Maserati.

Most comparative reviews I've read have given the SL500 much better scores for styling than the Maserati.

Nice....Maserati spyder w/ hardtop will be interesting....but it's a good idea to wait the first year of production...they always come out w/ issues...

so.... an idea is to get a SL ... I can keep it for 1 or 2 years to see the new spyder.. =)

thanks!

I think the Maserati is kind of cool because of the Ferrari like engine sound....but it's current styling just isn't worth it for the money IMO...most car guys I know say the same....get the SL or wait for the new Maserati hardtop convertible.

So true. The car that shouts LOOK AT ME also says GIVE ME A SPEEDING TICKET. I don't know about the Mas but the SL will give you the feeling of being carved out of a solid chunk of solid metal when you drive it. Very few roadsters can make that claim. I bet far better crash protection too. The SL is NOT a sports car though, but a sporty type car. It is also a supreme Grand Touring automobile that you could drive for days and still be comfortable.

I really like the Maserati. Just be prepared to fill it up constantly.
