New 2007 SL550 50th is in.
I really hate posting a picture of my new 2007 SL550 50th, since the pictures were taken right after the car was delivered to the dealer this morning. I will post a better picture later (since I was asked). I'm taking delivery today, or Monday. In the meantime. The good, the bad and the ugly
The good:
1) Styling changes to the front end are gorgeous
2) new engine. You notice everyone of the new 86 HP
3) Beautiful exhaust note
4) Brakes are now user friendly.
5) Colors are very very nice in person.
6) 50th package is only $5,100 !!
7) interior is made of nicer stuff
The bad:
1) base price of the 2007 SLs is NOT lower than the 2006. It is $2k HIGHER, at 94,800
2) No Panorama roof :-(
The ugly:
1) The gas guzzler tax is now $1,700 !!!!!!! Thieves!

Love the color combo...the car looks great, im sure that extra 80+ hp will give a nice kick to the performance side...you paid 2k more and no pano roof (which you can have installed for 3k by MB)...for a special edition SL..the fact that you'll probably never see one like it on the road IMO makes it well worth the setbacks

I test drove this guy today at the dealer. The mocha is sweet. The throttle response of the 550 is worth the $2K. I wish it had more options like the sport package. That would make me make the jump.

some info
The mileage is: 14/22
And the car only comes with one combination of options. Base SL = 94,800, (Premium one = 3150, Trim Package = 900), 50th package is actually just 1,050. Total = 102,375 with guzzler and freight. Not sure about the need of the "cosmetic only" sports package, but it may have added to the look. It's in my garage as I write this, and I can get more pics tomorrow. They tell me that they are only making 550 of these 50ths (how clever). Anyone know how many SLs they sell each year overall?? (standard wheel??)

Congratulations tiggerfink, she's a beauty! I really like the interior color. I'm still waiting to finalize my order for a 2007 SL600, the dealer still has not received the option/designo color list. Enjoy your new baby, I'm jealous!

I have read that the SL550 is near the R129 SL600 power ... with the 7 speed transmision ... pretty good performance!
I have been really interested in the R230 SL600.
I am used to the R129 SL500 power ... some post that the R230 SL500 has been the most practical.
What to do now?

Finally
Oh. And MB FINALLY did phones right. With the $350 bluetooth adapter, my Verizon issued Moto Razr connects/calls/downloads like a champ. And works seemlessly with the standard COMMAND system.

Good eye.
My 03 SL had the same buttons that you have. My 05 SL removed them. The 07 now has a passenger airbag defeat switch in their place. Go figger!
