SL/R230: Puff of white/blue smoke at start up

Puff of white/blue smoke at start up
I noticed that my 04 SL600 gives off a puff of white/blue smoke during start up after have parked for a short while.
Experience tells me that is caused by burning oil that had leaked into the cylinder from somewhere ( rings, Turbo etc )
I called the service manager at MB Beverly Hills and he told me thats normal for the V12's in our cars? Is that true?
I have 25k miles on my car.
Thx

I don't think it is normal. I would take it back in and get to the bottom of it. You might want to post this question in other forums (S, CL, Maybach, AMG) to see how common this is with the TT V12.

Consider this: if smoke is getting past the catalytic converters, you've got issues.
My guess is that rings are going or that there are seal issues with the turbos.
Either way, don't let a dealer delay you until the car is out of warranty.
Is the car using oil yet?
A check of each spark plug would tell the dealer if the problem is ring related or turbo related, but on my Sl600, after 13K miles, not a sign of smoke.

My 04 SL600 has always produced a lot of pure white vapor on chilly mornings (more than my other cars), which I think is steam, not oil smoke. I figure the catalytic converters for the V12s are probably larger than for other cars, so they retain more moisture to be boiled off when they heat up.

2007 S550
This just happened to me today on my '07 S550 with about 500 miles on it, after I moved the car out of the garage for a few minutes then restarted it. First time. We'll see if it happens again.

I have a 89 420SEL and it smokes once a week on starting and I see it in my rear view mirror as I look back there before pulling out. Its a huge cloud of smoke, and I can only hope the one from the R230 isn't that bad
