INCREDIBLE HEAT from ENGINE

I noticed recently how HOT the ENGINE stays even hours after the car has been shut off. I went out into the garage this evening and it is pretty hot here in Florida right now and my garage was like an oven, I could feel the heat just walking past the front of the SL600. What's up with it staying hot for so long?

Did you use the correct oil after the oil warning light came on? Try calling RennTech, see what they say.

I think it's very normal, my E55 remains hot for a few hours too, especially on top of the engine at the supercharger. I'm in South Florida and it's going to be an unbearable summer I'm afraid .

I think

I think it is normal too. I did add the right oil to it.

I have two other Mercedes and neither of them produce the kind of heat this engine seems to produce, but neither of the other two engines are a V12 either.

Don't forget your engine has turbos and like the supercharged engines they get very very hot!

That makes Sense

That makes sense. Today I was driving my old SL320 and came home on the curvy road to the community. It handles well, but nothing close to how the SL600 handles. Considering the weight of this vehicle the handling is quite amazing to me. I really enjoy driving this car.

Yes, it's probably the turbo's. I drove an A4 2.0T really hard and after opening the hood, placing my hand a foot away from the turbo almost burnt it!!

Why not install an extraction system for the garage. Most people with garages that tight have way too much heat in the garage and there is no reason you can't force vent the air with a thermostat switch.

My SL600 sheds a huge amount of heat too. So does the Continental GT. I think it's judt a characteristic of big 12 cylinder engines.

My S600 gets the garage extremly hot. I usually leave it in
the driveway for a while before pulling it in, or leave the
garage open till it cools off.

You are basically trying to disperse 300Kw of latent heat into a small room. Consider that 2Kw is the average size of a portable room heater.

I have just a C 320, and I noticed that it stays hot for a long time too. I think it's because most MBs (notable exception is the ML) are sealed up so tight that there isn't a good way for them to disperse heat when at standstill. So, as dumb as it may sound I just pop the hood and open it when I park it in the garage, and it seems to cool down a lot faster. I am **** though....

Even in my old-school SL600, the heat is incredible--and that's sans turbo. I cannot believe that the paint is not pealing, or that plastic and rubber componenets under the hood don't start to dry-rot.

Even the fenders get burning hot. Apparently this is normal, as it has been genertaing this much heat for 9 years now.

On warm days after driving, if I am in my driveway, I will often open the hood to let some heat out. Hours later there is still substantial heat.

I often wonder why MB does not have an auxilliary fan that runs after the car is off--I remember Hondas and Acuras used to have this feature.

Just goes to show you how inefficient automobiles are! Can't remember exactly, but from a physics course I think only 35% of the energy produced by the engine goes to moving the car...

My CL600 keeps the garage pretty darn toasty all night long! Maybe I should have moved to Michigan and I could've really saved on the heating bills! Then again, Miami isn't so bad!

It did scare me the first time I went out to my garage 2 hours later to find my fenders and hood still scaldingly hot. I've never had a car produce heat like this one, but it sounds normal for these V12TTs.....
