Anybody with brake noise issues on SL550?

I have a tad over 600 miles on my 2007 SL550 and have always had a funny noise coming from the right rear. It sound like a plunger being used everytime I apply the brakes.
Does anybody else have this issue? I would like to know if this is a common problem with these new cars prior to taking it in to the dealer.

Yesterday I noticed the same funny noise (like a small plunger action) coming from the rear area each time I applied the brakes, and it happened continuously over a 300 mile trip.
Did you have any success in getting this problem fixed?

My plunger noise is still coming from the rear pass side. I have yet to hear it on the driver side. I asked several advisors at my local dealer but none had heard of this issue yet.
I figured that I will just have them look at it during the initial 1000-3000 mile checkup.
I think that they also tighten up the parking brake during this service. It's been raining quite a bit here so we haven't driven the car much hence the reason we only hit the 1000 mile plateau recently.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Same situation here. I plan on taking it to the dealer in Orlando to work on it; just went over the 1000 mile mark as well.

meegle,
I dropped off the car in Orlando this afternoon for them to do the initial (free) inspection and look into a few issues, such as the brake noise. Unfortunately, on the drive over the brake noise did not occur one time.
I'll let you know if they find the problem and are able to fix it. Hopefully, the car will be ready tomorrow.

The dealer put 3 techs on the car trying to hear and find the brake noise problem, but were unsuccessful, which is not surprising since the noise was not present when I drove to the dealership.
I also had them do an oil/filter change, though it's not required by M-B. Guess I'm just "old school" about getting rid of the "break-in" oil.

Sgooter,

Which MB did you go to? I will take mine in next week to MBSO to have them take a look as it is still producing the "plunger noise" during braking.

Gotta admit that I'm less than impressed with MB South Orlando so far. Just dropped it off this morning for an engine throttle issue (hesitates from time to time, usually in the morning). This is my third time bringing it in for this issue. All this from a 2006 that I've had < 6 months. Jeez Louise!!!

It's a bit of a drive but I've also heard good things about the service @ Central Florida Eurocars.

meegle,
Did you take your car into MBSO yet for the brake noise? If so, what did they find?
Mine is still making the noise about 80% of the time -- it's getting more annoying everyday.

Sgooter,

Took it today and the technician informed me that it was normal and just the SBC system doing it's job. He also told me that other models were even more audible than mine.
I had an 05 CL500 and never had this noise issue.

Finally got my car back from MBSO after another full week of "repairs." While I realize that I should be grateful to be driving such a beautiful car (for which I am very grateful), it's a bit frustating when it's been in the shop a total of 18 days in the first 6 months. by my math, that's ~ 10% of the time. wonder if they'll refund me 10% of the cost of the car?

we all paid a pretty penny for these cars and to have inept "authorized" service centers is inexusable (IMHO).

MBSO didn't bother to fix one of the issues I originally brought it in for (glovebox not opening) claiming it works just fine and they couldn't find an issue. sure enough, with the service advisor sitting in the car with me when I came to pick it up yesterday, it wouldn't open.

seems like there is very little effort made to troubleshoot reported issues.

stepping down from the soap box now...sorry to vent.

If this statement from the MBSO tech is correct, then it logically follows that during the 20-30% of the time that I'm not hearing the chirping noise, my SBC must not be working correctly. Right?
I can just imagine the look on the service advisor's face if I were to tell him my braking system is too quiet.
Methinks you should get a 2nd opinion from a different dealer, such as the one in Maitland.

Brake Noise Fixed

Took my SL to the local dealer today and the brake system chirping noise seems to have been fixed. As predicted by "damaged," the remedy was to bleed the brakes to get the air out of the system. When I turned in the car for repair, the SA also believed the problem was being caused by air in the brake system, and said they had seen this type of problem before on cars equipped with SBC. I was in and out of the dealership in 1 hour.
My thanks to "damaged" for the sage advice.

Mine got resolved today thanks to advice from "damaged" who also recently opened a shop called Fusion motor sports in L.A. specializing in MB repairs.
He also was able to provide solutions about other issues on the SL's that my local dealers were unaware of.

Mine also had the "noise". After a couple of weeks, it is gone. Now 1500 miles on the car.

clunk sound

I've noticed a noise coming from the right side rear but not when using the brakes. It is kind of a soft clunk sound like some hydraulic mechanism making adjustments. I've heard it occasionally while sitting still and backing up slowly and always on the right side. Not sure about other times with engine noise and such.

I'm not worried about it, just curious...

The next time your glove box sticks here is a solution that cured the same problem on my SL55 and CL55. Open the glove box and you will see 2 black phillips head screwsfacing you on the inner top of the compartment. These appear to have a black "washer' on them. Back them out and keep opening and closing the box until it opens all of the time. I had the same problem on both cars and the dealer said it was because I did not use it enough---typical dealer response.
