My dealer quoted me $229 for A service and $399 for B service.

I recently went to an outside MB mechanic around here and a B service out the door on my 2003 with just under 50k miles ran me $380 including new airfilters...

i figure the dealership would have been a bit more... but i only get it serviced once a year, so it seems like a bargain...

I just called local dealer and they said the warranty covers all scheduled maintenance for free during warranty duration?! Is this true??

Only on the older models. They did away with this the past couple years.

That perk stopped after MY04. My wife's SL service is paid out out pocket; however, my '04 CL's service is free.

Why would MB make such a nonsense move like that. Someone goes and spends $80K on a brand new car only to find out that they have to pay for services while the car is under warranty?

They want customers to buy their A or B service package which is pretty outrageous especially if you don't put too many miles on your vehicle. You end up paying a premium in advance and most likely never use what they offer. I believe the 3 year/39,000 miles Vehicle maintnance Plan Plus cost around $3300.

Most are better off paying out of pocket when service is needed.

Interesting part is, is that BMW offers quite literally hassle free maintenence on all new and CPO automobiles. Although I personally prefer MB automobiles, they can really learn a thing or two about service and customer satisfaction from BMW.
