This next week the dealer is going to "ATTEMPT" to install the new 2007 style taillights on my 2006 SL600. They commented that it may not work if the connectors are not the same, etc...........

Does anyone know for sure if the assembly is the same behind the lenses so that it is like just replacing the assembly that is already there without having to do any kind of modifications.

man, i wish i can help you out. i will be doing the same, putting 2007 sl55/65 tails and center brake on my 2006 sl sport.

i wish you the best and hope the install is just plug and play.

I hope you are putting on the AMG ones....the clear ones make the car look too plain IMO.....both are better then 03-06 stock non-amg though.

I have the AMG's on and to be honest I almost like the 03-06 AMG better, the 07's are too...clear, even in the smoked part. The regular 07's make the car look like a SLK or any other dime a dozen red/white taillight'ed car. I saw someone had a smoked third brake light on Ebay a couple weeks ago....it looked like it was an OEM part too. Anyone aware of them ever doing smoked third brake lights?

I'll post some pics of my car this weekend, been raining everyday here this week.

I think the standard 07 taillights would indeed look great on your black SL but the smoked ones from the AMG would probably look better on a lighter colored SL.

Either will look great. The clear ones would be more in keeping with the 2007 refresh of the SL600.

They are going to attempt to make the change tomorrow. I will post pics after they install the lights and scratch up the black paint on my car.

How is that for being optimistic.

I haven't had time either. Just go on Ebay and look at a 2007 SL55, it looks the same.

I really apologize but I laughed so hard when I read your post. How funny and unfortunately true in so many instances.

In this case, it should be really easy for them to not screw up the paint. They would have to try really hard which I know...at times appears very easy for them.

I am sure it will be fine.

they should bolt right on, takes about 2 hours. when lenses get changed they dont re-engineer body wiring harnesses.
If you where in L.A I would do it for you.

This is what Im trying to do....where did you purchase the lights and how was the installation? I was told its a B*tch to do by yourself.

I purchased the 2007 sl55/65 tails and 3rd center brake light from my local dealer.

they couldn't fix a small, i mean really small, barely noticeable ding on the hood. so i got the lights @ dealer cost and free installation. kinda cool when the service manager, parts manager, and finance manager like you.

your local dealer can purchase and install the lights for you.

the installation for the taillights and 3rd brake light took about 3 hours.
