Are SL500's being sold at MSRP yet?

Or are california dealers still bending over customers and giving it to them raw? haha

Market price

Rather than 20,000 over list, some SL500's are now going for $10,000 over but they are generally ones with a couple thousand miles on them or more and without the panorama roof and in less desired colors such as white or green. Can't speak for California though where the premium over MSRP may still be $20,000 plus. (Another way to answer your question is to suggest you go to EBAY and take a look at the "BUY IT NOW" prices.)

The cheapest SL 500 i have seen on ebay with a "buy it now" option was 99K. It was black on ash i think, no sports package and only one or 2 options. Id say sticker was 90K including gas guzzler, lux tax, destination. SO there you go, 10K premium. and i believe its gonna drop some more soon.

California prices are still expensive (especially Los Angeles). Normal dealerships, with less than 3000 miles, some SLs are still going for 30k -40k over sticker. Most I'd say are stuck around 20.

late november is the earliest that they will have a build slot..

so its actually no wait at all.

Be prepared to pay something over MSRP, because there is a waiting list. People have been waiting since 1999 and 2000. But they will buy the car at MSRP. If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can get it ahead of them. Sucks for them, but hey, money talks.

Work the economy in your favor. I bet if I lived anywhere else except for LA, florida, or NY, you can buy into the build slot for less than $5k.

2003 CL55
I was under the impression that MB dealers were not permitted by MBUSA to sell new cars at a premium. They all sell slightly used MB's at premiums when they can. Our SL, which will sell at MSRP, will be built in mid-Nov, but we have been on the list for over a year. I ordered a CL55 a month ago and expect a build date in the first quarter of 03. Demand for all premium cars is way down from a couple of years ago.

I believe if you have your car ordered straight from the manufacturer, they can't sell it to you for over MSRP. However, if the dealer buys the car first, they technically own it, so they can sell it for whatever price they want...hence, the premium price.

Not necessarly so

Mercedes would be in big trouble with the US Attorneys office if they were requiring independent dealers to sell their cars at a specific price. i.e. price-fixing. That isn't to say though that there aren't subtle ways of encouraging dealers to sell at MSRP such as rewarding dealers with extra allocations.
