Sirius

Curious about feedback on the Sirius Satelite radio, was thinking of having the dealer install it for me.

I can't live without it. On the off-chance that I actually listen to regular FM radio it just makes me happy I'm a subscriber. I got sick of the same 15 song line-up most radio stations have and all the censorship. I couldn't be happier with it. Well, ok, I kinda wish I didn't lose signal as much as I do but I can live with that because they play great music.

My 06 SL came equipped with Sirius, and I've used it only a few times. I regard the sound quality as excellent, but I'm not impressed with their song selections/programming. To me, Sirius/XM is still just another radio - although it comes with a subscription fee. So, when the free introductory 6-month subscription expires, I will not renew it, as I'm not sufficiently impressed with XM or Sirius to pay $12 a month for it. I understand that many initial subscribers to XM or Sirius do not renew their subscriptions.

Maybe it's me and not the radio, since I have not renewed Teleaid either after the initial free 12-month subscription expires, such as on my SLK, and whatever that similar system is called on my GMC SUV, along with the XM service that came with it.

The best audio-related feature on my SL is that it plays MP3 DVDs (600+ songs). It's commercial-free and I can listen all day long to my preferred music.

Dvd

I agree with you about the DVD feature, it is so nice to organize into folders all on one disc and have virtually an endless supply of music that you enjoy literally at your fingertips.

I rarely use anything other than Sirius. It is especially nice on long road trips.

I'm driving a loaner right now, and I totally forgot what life was like before Sirius. I can't believe how much worse regular radio is.

As I understand it, the MB implementation drops more often than that of other manufacturers. But with the ground repeaters, I have had nearly perfect service in NYC, and it goes out in predictable places. As small price to pay.

I have Sirius in most rooms of my house via Dish Network, and in both my vehicles. I've been a music lover all of my life and I don't know how I lived before Sirius. For me, their Disorder channel is worth the subscription price alone. They play anything & everything on that channel. I've discovered an amazing amount of great music that I would have otherwise never have heard! The news feeds from Fox, CNN, etc. are good too, but you get their commercials as part of the feed.

I like Sirius so much that I won't buy a vehicle that forces XM on the owner.

Now all I need is a Sirius receiver that will fit in my cycling jersey pocket for all the hours I spend doing that.

Smile Sirius Money

SIRIUS (SIRI) CEO Mel Karmazin was on CNBC tonight, on Jim Cramer's Mad Money show (perhaps CNBC is also broadcast on Sirius). Anyway, Jim was trying to convince Mel to buy out XM Satellite Radio (XMSR). He even dialed XM's phone number on the air for Mel Imagine that, ifthey merged we'd probably get a radio someday that had 2 bands (Sirius and XM). Sort of like the way we have both AM and FM today. If that ever happens Jim Cramer expects Sirius stock to double from today's low price of about $ 4. Assuming he is correct, that could be enough fast profit to pay for a lifetime Sirius Subscription.

I have both, Sirius in my M6 and XM in my Denali.

Between the two I prefer XM, sound quality is better and XM has better talk shows.
If you are a Stern fan or big on the NFL then Sirius is the way to go.

I agree with the prior post regarding sound quality I had both.... xm was simply better.....i dont think people realize how much debt sirius has accumulated after Howard and NFL....hundreds of millions of dollars.....and they have precious little cash.........I think xm buys sirius............. The variety of programs is great on a long trip

Sirius is ok. my subsription just ran out and I'm not planning on renewing it. Plus I installed a DVD Euro command unit recently. So I can only use one at a time, so I chose the DVD player. I agree with Sgooter, the song selections are not that great, although on occasion I was impressed.

Installed

Got it installed today. The variety of channels is very nice. I was surprised to be driving through a wooded area, sort of a canopy type of road, and the signal going out so easily.
