I was in having my top serviced, (It was rattleing a little) and I mentioned to the service advisor that I was going to get the auto top after my warranty runs out in about 10 months... he said some SL's came with this feature built in?! He said my car may have this option... but I was on my way out of service and we did not get to check it out.

Any Idea how to tell if your car allready has this option and how to activate it?

My UK 2002 SL55 (last car), and my UK 2004 SL55 both have/had it.

You just hold down the close or open button on the remote, with the remote within a few centimetres of the pickup on the door handle (pointed at it)

If it doesnt work, I guess its just a tweak in star diagnosis to turn it on ..

I think the service guy was speaking of the funktion Richard explains.
All R230 have that funktion but I never heard anyone with the one touch modul built in.
I got my module from Piecha and will install it this winter so I will be ready for those warm summerdays.. Right now its 0 degree celsius. Brrr...

R230 Nicke - Sorry to intrude but I just noticed that you have upgraded your ECU. Can you give us more information and if you are happy with it?

Hey, nice idea that one touch module. I guess they dont do it as standard for safety reasons (i.e chopped off hands!)

The service guy I was talking to was saying that some of the 2003's had this option installed factory, he said it was a 50/50 chance I have it, told me to go hold my key fob button down to see if it worked.. alas it did not.

I guess I will have to get the aftermarket part installed.

I think I will wait for my warranty to end as I just had my top serviced due to it rattleing a lot... and I wouldnt want that kinda thing blamed on aftermarket parts installed.

Hold on. The key must be really near the door handle, pointing at it - as infra-red rather than radio is used for that function

My 2002 had it (not with fully auto, you did have to keep the button down to make it close) - so therefore its in the software, probably just not coded to be enabled on all US cars.

You need an independant with Star Diagnosis, or a MB dealer that willing to go through all the coding options and find one that sounds likely to do the auto-close

OH! Nice! I just went outside and held the unlock button down next to the door handle... and it worked! top went down, but it stopped a few times as it lost "connection" with the key fob.

hmm... SO... you would think there would be a way to make that one touch "auto" with out an aftermarket part.
