Satellite radio

I know the dealer has a module they can put in for about a 1000 dollars.
Is there another choice that looks factory. I don't want to mount anything on the dash or console. I have a 2005 SL500.

Your dealer is hitting you pretty hard for the module. If you have other dealers around you, I would shop around. The cars are pre-wired, and it is a plug-in module. It will probably still cost you around $700 to $750, but $1000, just for the part, is too much.

Your car is pre-wired, but the installer still has to add an antenna and the module. My antenna wire was run from the trunk lid up to the radio. Considering that there's a decent amount of interior disassembly the $980 I paid wasn't too bad. If it had been done during the original build in Germany, no disassembly would have been required.

That way you get complete integration, with the station & songs/programming info appearing on your nav screen and on the little display between your speedo & tach.

Do it! Sirius Satellite Radio is awesome!!

Actually, between 1000 and 1200 is about right to add the factory Sirius module and antenna to the factory COMAND system. You can get an aftermarket version a lot cheaper, but it won't be integrated into the COMAND with all the features and it won't display like the factory unit will and you won't be able to use the steering wheel controls either.

I had the factory Sirius unit added to my SL by the dealer and it works great. One nice thing about installation by the dealer is you can get the hidden antenna underneath the passenger side hood vent instead of drilling a hole in the trunk.

It may be listed on the invoice, but I don't have it handy right now. Just tell them you want the hidden antenna and they should know what you're talking about. If they don't, you should go to a different dealer.

I had the hidden antenna on my SL500, and now have the trunk mounted antenna on my SL600. I listen to satellite radio a lot, and can't really say that one or the other gets better reception, so looks and/or installation costs should be your only consideration.
