AMG Paddle Shift Steering Wheel......

Has anyone upgraded there wheels yet to the new style? I spoke with a few Technicians at Mercedes about installing them and they said its doable to get the paddle shift functions to work.

Does anyone know of a good reliable source where I can get a Steering wheel with paddle shifting at a reasonable cost? Also can anyone get me a diagram of the wiring system in our cars? I need mainly the steering wheel and gear shifting diagram. I was going to look into it with a electrician friend of mine and double check with the technicians at MB once I figure out the electrical wiring and maybe consider trying it.

Ive heard a few places that actually have the conversion but no ones routing me in the right direction so either there being d*cks about it or just dont want to share there info with anyone else or just dont know.

Anyways would love some feed back on this!!

I should have an answer on this soon. Older sl's have 2 wire paddle shifters. The new steering wheel is a 3 wire paddle shifter which is connected into a control module inside the steering wheel and then it gets converted to 2 wires.

Thanks for the posting.....But is this conversion possible on cars that dont have the paddle feature? I dont have buttons, levers, switches.....nothing. I want to convert it onto my car....is this what your working on? Or is it just the upgrade from the button steering wheel to the paddle steering wheel?

Thanks,
Johnny

Sunil,

I have an 05 SL55 and have in my possesion a wheel from an 06 with the aluminum paddles and I see the module you speak of (on the right side of the wheel). The wires from the paddles are plugged into the upper two sockets, and the 3 remaining sockets in the module each have 3 pins inside them. Are you saying the wiring coming from the car will not plug into these sockets because the car wiring (plugs) are two pin design?
Thx!

The wheel you probably have is not from an SL. Perhaps a CLS or E class. The SL wheel control module has 3 plugs on it. Not 5.

I am very interested. Hopefully the CLS or E class wheel has perforated leather. I am curious though; would this require a whole new airbag assembly?

The only thing that sucks is I dont want to spend so much on a wheel and not have the paddle function. There has to be a way. If I was able to find them for a reasonable pricing I probably would consider this project.

I guess it depends on what is 'too much.' I am not going to pay $2000 for a part I can get for ~$600 in Europe. If it was significantly over $1000, the wheel better be EXACTLY the style I want. :p

Exactly!! Im trying to find the Maple/Leather or the Carbon Fiber/Leather with paddle shifts and it appears its around $1500 to $2000. Im pretty sure in Europe its cheaper thats for sure. All we need is a hook up from there!!

I am curious, are the AMG wheels from the CLS or E class wider in diameter? I ask as they look the same in pictures...

My steering wheel that I was supposed to get fell through and now Im back on the market looking for one. Does anyone know of a good place I can pick one up. Im looking for a thicker wheel and not so big. I found this wheel and was wondering what you all thought? I was hoping for Punched Alcantara / Smooth Leather but this is Punched Leather / Smooth Leather.
