Went to the dragway with my SL550
Last weekend we decided to go to the dragstrip and since my car is all broken in I decided to run it. Anyhow, the first night was nice and cool and the car ran a best time of 13.606 @ 107 MPH. The next day it really warmed up and traction was great, my best run of the afternoon was a 13.428 @ 104 MPH. The night before I was able to knock off 13.65's consistantly with around 2.0 sixty foots, the next day was able to knock off 13.50's consistantly also with 2.0 sixties, the best run of 13.428 was with a good 1.9 sixty.
My friends and I were very impressed with the numbers. I was expecting high 13's.

Curious, you have a couple of AMG's what made you go for the 550 over the 55? Given the increase in HP the 550 seems like a good compromise when compared with spending an additonal $25~30K US on a 55 that around here (Bay Area, CA) not sure how often I could really enjoy the extra power.
I had a big block Chevelle many, many years ago in high school that only turned low 13's (couldn't hook up well). Very impressive for a luxury roadster!

I got the car for a steal at nearly 10k below MSRP including the AMG kit and I felt it was just too good to pass on. The man who originally ordered the car had died a few days before taking delivery and this resulted in big savings only if I purchased this car.

I'm quite impressed with off the line performance from a stop all the way to 3rd gear, it does a very quick 60 foot normally 2.0 but sometimes a 1.9. Most of the speed is from a standstill but it's not bad from a roll either. Only performance I'm not so crazy about is in 3rd gear at speed. The AMG's are definately faster but the 550 is nothing at all to complain about. If I race the Sl550 for almost the length of an intersection it will stay pretty close, but after that or any other time the AMG's will eat it for breakfast.
The great thing about this 550 is that in any temp you can just mash the gas and the car just takes off with hardly any traction issues, it will run the same times over and over again just by mashing the gas to the floor.

Sean, yes, very quick i thought, if you're still watching, do you recall was esp on or off? Still working out how best to launch it, been babying it up to this point, now it's time to have some fun!
She really goes well, and the sport package looks fantastic in white, with those cool clear lights out back, nice together, i'll get some photos up soon as I'm able.
Noticed many posts on AMG and V12 cars, where are the sl550 people, and where's the years worth of information/experiences?
Feel like I have much to learn about the car, learn how to get the most out of it, dont think i am.
You know she does 60 in just 4.8 seconds, only half a second behind the big boys!
Oh i remember now, so many posts dedicated to supermerc upgrades, does anyone have power upgrades for the sl550 motor? I think it's pushing 383 hp as is, must be a way to squeze out 15% more.
Would like to sharpen up the shift changes too, seems to be unecessarily long lag, perhaps i need to experiment with the C/S button.
I have so many questions! Be great to find many already answered so you guys dont have to go over it again, just point me to the posts, tanx
