Just got a Used 2003 SL500. How'd I do?

Hi,

I just bought a used SL from a very reputable dealer in the Bay area for $50,500 (before taxes and Title). Here are the specs:

-Black exterior with Stone interior
-32,000 miles
-One previous owner
-Clean Car Fax
-Certified pre-owned (1 yr, 100,000 mile warranty)
-SL3 comfort package (adds ventilated seats)
-SL1 Wood trim package chestnut
-Panaorama (moon roof)
-Also came with all cargo netting extras for trunk and the windscreen bag -and extra auxillary cup holder.
-New car mats

Very very clean (no visible dings outside and perfect interior)

I looked around and saw private party selling for under $50k but obviously no warranty and not backed by dealer/service etc.

I'm pretty happy with it all and all. There was another car at a different dealer with the same everything except it also had the AMG sport package (what's in that package by the way), keyless Go, but about 5,000 more miles and it ended up selling for $52,200.

How do you think I did?

First off Welcome to the board and Congrats on the Car. Your now a proud owner of a SL and have nothing but fun ahead of you!

I live in the Bay as well.....If you dont mind me asking who did you get it from? Anyways, its a fair price. Honestly you could have done a little better but got to keep in mind you bought it from the Bay Area so your going to be looking a little higher in pricing than other places. Also its hard to come across a decent deal and if you do its going to take you a while to find them. It took me months till I found mine because I wanted a certain color and options.

Also Im assuming it wasnt a Sport Package as you stated you found another one for a little bit more. I would have gone with the Sports Package. Going with the Pano Roof is one of the best choices you could have done as its hard to find one out this way in our area. I have it on mine and from here on is going to be a standard option for me on other MB cars if I decide to go with anymore.

Anyways Congrats once again on the purchase.

SL500 2003
Thanks everyone for the congrats and affirmation of my choice.
Sorry for the omission in the previous post, its a 2003 SL 500.
I didn't pay more for another 24 mth extended warranty beyond the Certified Pre-owned as it would have been an extra $4.5k.
Are there after market 3rd party warranties that you would recommend when my current warranty expires?

As for the name of the bay area dealer, feel free to PM me for the name of the dealer if you are interested.

I know this is adjunct to the topic, but the integrated phone is not activated on the car. Have people modified their 03/04 phones to work with bluetooth? Or does everyone basically just go with their cellphones and bluetooth earpieces and forget about the integrated in the car.

One annoying thing is the continuing memory malfunction message that I can't get rid of because the SOS service is not active as the phone is not working.

Thx

Congrats

Welcome to the SL forum and congratulations on your new ride.

As far as the extended warranty beyond your CPO.
Thats about the going rate. I paid $ 3500.00 for a
4 year 75K on my CL500 a couple years ago.

Not a bad price for a low mile CPO single owner.
Did you get the service history report?
If not get it when you take it in for service next time.

Enjoy the top down weather in your SL.

Post some pics.

For your phone, go to your MB parts dept and tell them you
want to purchase a "Bluetooth Puck" for your SL. It runs about
$250. Basically you take the regular cell phone out (Motorola
V60) and you plug this new unit in its place. Its a black plastic
box that looks like the case of a cell phone. Then you take your
bluetooth enabled phone, and pair it to the car. You now will
have bluetooth in your SL.

Thanks for the bluetooth advice Rajah, unfortunately I don't have any cradle with a V60 in the center arm rest. So I read that I might not be even able to find one these days.
I guess the other options is to buy the Argos
http://www.eiskits.com/documents/Arg...heet%201.4.pdf

for about $800?
Has anyone tried this install with an older SL500 2003?
Does it work ok? And when a call comes in, will it mute the radio etc and display info on the COMAND screen?

Thx again Rajah for the tips.

No problem. You might want to talk to some salvage yards and
see if you can find the cradle you need. It might be cheaper. I
just love it because it integrates into the car, the cluster shows
the number, and you can dial using the stereo. I have voice
comand too which is icing on the cake.

Congrats on your acquisition. I recently bought an 05 SL500 in the Bay Area as well. I probably paid too much, but it was exactly the car my wife wanted. U know how that goes.

05 SL500 13k miles
Aegean blue/stone
AMG sport package
keyless go
multi-contour seats
comfort package
wood package
one owner, Calif. car
1 yr extra CPO + purchased 2 more yrs on MBZ extended warranty, total 5 yrs left on warranty

Pd. $68500+T&L

The car is great, loving every minute of it.
