2011 Sl

Hello,

I know this is way premature...but the thing is i wanted to try and find out some info...

Problem is im considering ordering the 2009 sl550 i think it would be....but i have heard rumours that a 2011 model will be a complete redesign?

I just want to make sure i don't take the leap....and then have the new body come out....

Please let me know any info anyone might have as i am ordering the car today or monday..

Cheers,

Paul

A facelifted 2009 SL is due out in 2008 (March 2008 has been reported) with a whole new redesign in 2011.

I am planning on ordering the 2009 SL (probably AMG), too, but my dealer doesn't have any information on this new face-lifted model, yet. Does your dealer have the 2009 information already?

I visited my dealership the other day for a few different reasons, including checking on any news of the 2009 SL, but they don't have any news, yet. I ended up walking away with the brochure (a very nice one, I might add) for the 2008 SLR McLaren Convertible Roadster. That has provided some happy reading/dreaming the past several days. If only I could talk my husband into that one instead!!

...............just so you know; the required answer you get from a dealer about future models is that they don't know. Most of the time, this is true........they really don't know. Sometimes they know but I learned from an MB salesman that they are instructed to plead ignorance in order not to negatively affect the sales of existing vehicles.

that is completely true.

i used to sell cars and management doesn't want to tell the salespeople anything that has to do with a car that they cannot sell that day. not that management knows too much, it doesn't do anyone up the chain any good for them to know either.

i saw a guy get fired one day for speculating on an engine change for an upcoming model. the customer thought it sounded great and decided to wait. well he was waiting a long time, the change never came.

Consider leasing an 09 for two years and then trade it for the new model.

That's my plan.

Are the AMGs released later than the "regular" models?? If so, how much later? The 2009 SL is suppose to come out in March 2008. I was wondering when I would be able to order the AMG version. Any ideas?

Talking

You cant ask dealerships nothin.....they really dont know there sh*t, I had a argument with a salesman about a half year back because he told me there was no such thing of a 6.3 liter engine for AMG and he wasnt putting it on too he was serious....and look who end up being right......I learn more things about my cars on here than asking a dealer

Dealers are intentially kept in the dark

I walked into my dealership to order an S63, about a year before it made it to the showroom. They had no clue what I was talking about. I told them it was coming, and that I wanted the first one they would get. They wouldn't take a deposit, and kept telling me I must want an S65. I talked to the GM every couple of weeks for about 6 months. Same story. Finally, when I got the "official" announcement (off an MBWorld forum, by the way), did they agree to take my order. It took another 2 or 3 months before they would let me spec it out, but finally, last February, I was able to place the order, and get March build date. The car was delivered at the end of May, and it was the first one my dealer got. They continually asked me how I had more information than they had. I knew options, specs, etc, and they had no clue. The same thing happened with the NAV system update. I knew more than they did, and had to walk them through what to do, and even what [I]not[I] to charge for the update.

I don't blame the dealer. I believe they are kept in the dark because there is always something better or different coming down the line. The dealers and MBUSA have to sell cars TODAY, not a year down the road. I'm sure they are not happy that info about the 2009 SL refresh is out, because it makes it harder to sell the 2008's.

Don't count on the dealer for up-to-date information. Just keep visiting MBWorld, and keep up on all the news.
