Mercury Platinum for extended warranty????

Okay, decided to go with Mercury Platinum for extended warranty. read a number of good reports. Backed by sound financials. Coverage is good and price. Selected it for my daughter's CLK 350. However, as one last shot before purchase for the SL, has anyone used them before and had repairs for their command center and or convertible top. It appears that there is some confusion in the contract with these two items. thanks

I have the Mercury Platinum and recently used them for repairs
to my top. It was the first time I had to use them. There were
about $4k in repairs my dealer did to the car from a tranny seal
to the main pump for the top. All of it was covered except for
one part, which was the black flap which folds out of the trunk
when the top is down. Apparently that part is not covered.

thanks for the info...yes, I was looking at the Platinum but the contract is somewhat ambigious when it states about the top and mechanisms....in fact, in the exclusions, it states this, but it does state the motor is covered....what vehicle did you have fixed?

I have the policy on my SL. Just to clear things up, for the
most part nothing on the top is covered except for the motor
and the pump. As for the rest of the car, they seem to cover
almost everything. This was the best policy I could find for a
SL.

BTW, if you buy that warranty, call Rich (800-372-0665 Ext. 417)
with Auto Warranty Brokers. Mention Rajah sent you and he will
take good care of you.

Thanks, called the Claims adjuster at mercury...well, when I asked if the retractable roof and the mechanisms that control the top to go up and down are covered...he refered back to the contract and stated only the motor...and in fact said the retractable roof is not covered. I spoke with my dealer and he concured even though he too sells Mercury contracts. I spoke with two brokers for Mercury as well and when I questioned them...or drilled them, they indeed understood and finally agreed. So, although I have Mercury for my CLK and believe its a great policy...it doesnt apply to our SL's.

hey bw53, after a couple of days of exhausted research it think im back to square 1. im gonna stick with the diamler/chrysler service contract 7/70k $2080 $0 deductible

after re-reading the contract it is truly an exclusionary contract and is backed by diamler-chrysler.

the mercury contract does not cover the top

warranty direct has to many customer complaints and is very costly.

the 2 biggest problems with extended warranties is that 1 the salesperson will tell you everything is covered and when you need to use it thats when you find out its not covered because the actual contract clearly states it!

2. most of these company have no vested interest in keeping you happy since they have no interest in bringing you back as a new customer to buy a new car. they act just like an insurance company and will try to find anyway not to pay out for certain expensive repairs or components.
at least with diamler/chrysler their is still some vested interest, as small as it may be, is still more than you get with other companies.

the more i researched these the more i got frustrated. lol
but thanks for you help!

gqa, your comments are exactly how i feel and probably most feel with their SL's. its extremely frustrating. However, i too will be going with Chrysler. Although it starts out at the in-service date, the coverage, yrs that is, is about the same time as with contracts effective date when time of purchase. Did you contact Michael Case? Your price is exactly like mine. I also feel comfortable with DC as others with Sl's in this forum have used this warranty...with good results. Also, Michael discussed an additional option after the 7 yrs for additional 50K. Hmm, I dont see owning this vehicle beyond 2012...but with a possible added warranty...who knows...I assume you read my note above about Mercury....great company but after talking with claims dept and then calling back the brokers...urghh...lets say, it was interesting how they agreed so quickly with my new information. i've done enough due deligence....as I'm sure you have reading your note...I'm with you and calling this project OVER...now its time to sit back and enjoy the ride....take care, partner

From my understanding, when I was shopping for a policy,
I could not find one which covered the top, so I figure I
will take the risk on that, but everything else they can cover.

Thanks...I agree that Mercury is a good after market warranty. I have it for my daughters CLK. Just wasn't quite convinced with the SL. Take care and good luck.

Same thing happened to my SL. It said to visit workshop. Turns out the side flap something something gear was worn and had to be replaced. Would have cost me thousands if it wans't for factory warranty.

GET THE WARRANTY.

........I have 2 weeks left to get extended warranty in Cali. Anyone have any connection or dealer with good deal?

SSS, talk with
Michael Case

President

www.ChryslerServiceContracts.com

Office (866) 278-8823

Direct (630) 231-3464

I got a quote from him which is fair and their policy appears to be fine with our SL's. The DC policy starts with the date of purchase of the vehicle as oppose to some other policy's that start when you buy. But that didnt appear to be a problem, at least with my car. looking at this forum and you will note several others who have endorsed Michael as a straight up guy. Good luck.

Don't bother filling out the form if your car has more than 48,000 miles on it already.

My warranty is from Great lakes, and they will only cover the motor on the retractable roof. But they came through on the busted R strut and busted motor mount. The warranties are worth the money. get one.

No, i dont have the factory rims these what was on it when I got the car in Oct last year. I would have never thought that would be a problem when you can get a new mercedes with 20in on them.

I got Millenium Platinum for my extended warranty. Covers motor, parts, and just about everything. It's costly but worth it.

I try them already and they said they couldn't do because the factory warranty had ran out on my car. so i guess I will do without and hope that to much don't go wrong with the car.

Mercury Coverage

I brought the policy on Feb 2009 and the policy states that the the convertible top and their Mechanisms are excluded. On a side note, the command unit is also excluded. These are the two parts I hate to see fail.

Did you get this through a dealer? I called MIllenium for a quote and they said they only sold through dealers/brokers not direct to consumers.

I might go with Total Shield through a dealer I know but prices are a bit high.

Warranty

I got the loan and the warranty via my credit union. It is for 5-years 100,000 miles. It cost me 2900 dollars. The name of the company is Mecury. What I did was telephone dealerships and several garages that work on MB, and they all recommended Mercury and Fedility as the two warranty companies that are easy to work with and cause no problem. You have 60-days to cancel the contract. Read the contract carefully. For example the covertiable top is not covered the command unit is covered if you buy the electronic portion of the warranty.
