Cool Based on belief or sources?

I too would be surprised to see the SL350 come to the US this model year, but suspect there is a likely market for it here as well as there are many who cringe at having to pay the gas guzzler tax which is mandated with the SL500 and AMG versions.

Production of the new 3.7 liter 350 engine into cars starts in January 2003 and will initially be placed in the SL,ML and S Class models.

E Class,CLK and C Class still remains a mystery as to when/if production will begin with the 350 engine.

SL400 for US?

Over on the new E Class forum someone sighted a new E in California badged as a 400. With the actual engine size at 3.75 the marketing guys apparently are toying around with the idea of naming the US version of the 350 a 400 in order to differentiate it from such lesser competitors as the Infinity 350. Just naming the 350SL a 400SL in performance conscious US would probably make the car more sellable here. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time that SL's with the same sized engine in Europe and the US were badged differently.

SL55 AMG
It's a one off payment when you buy a thirsty car in the US. In the UK, we pay it every time we visit the gas stations by paying 4 times what you guys do in the US for a gallon of gas, albeit a slightly larger gallon and higher octane. Here, it costs $100 to fill up my SL55.
