Sirius Satellite in a 2003 SL?
Very simply...I'm used to Sirius Satellite Radio in my other vehicles and in my home. I really want a seamless installation of Sirius in my 2003 SL. Where can I find information on the installation of this technology without the "addon" look? I do not have the SAT button on my Command unit, and I will pay whatever I have to to make this happen. My SL500 has a mere 8000 miles on it as of today, and I enjoy the completely STOCK appearance of the car (has the AMG package from Mercedes). I am willing to use a portable radio if it can be tucked away, and not permanently installed. After all, even though I have the 2007 Cds for navigation, I am using a Garmin Streetpilot that can be removed when not used.
I know some of you have answers to this, and I am very open to your suggestions. I want it installed as invisibly as possible...so that it looks built in. Is there such a solution?
Thanks,
Stan

Wow...no answers yet! This must be a difficult problem. I thought so. Oh well, I'm patient. If you know how to do this, I would appreciate your response.
Thanks,

2003 SL500 Sport Package
I had a Sirius unit installed into my 2003 SL500 a few years ago by WorldWide Stereo in Montgomeryville, PA.
Essentially the put the sirius unit into the glove box and hooked the output form the unit to the jack in the glovebox that feeds into the AUX -- so it is hardwired ... instead of FM transmitted. The antenna for the unit I had them put into black grill on the hood near the windshield (right under the grill).
Works well for me with excellent sound quality ... but uses up your aux jack.
For the iPod (now iPhone) ... I used a few months earlier (did that myself -- which was probably a tougher project) ... the Denison IceLink kit ... essentially hooking into the Fiberbus where the original CD player behind the drivers seat was and hook my iPod / iPhone into that ... so it feeds music out the DOCK connector as a line feed.
Good luck.

Interesting.
Thank you. WorldWide Stereo is very close to where I live. I know them well. I'll take a ride down there and talk with them. Hopefully they remember the installation procedure they used for you. The Sirius Radio is in the Glove Box? Probably OK when you listen to 1 or2 specific stations. Great. Thanks again for the tip.

I listen to only a few stations most of the time ... but they installed the remote control for it in my armrest box (that is where I prefered it). Am sure they could install it somewhere else for you though to your preference.

Went to Worldwide Stereo in Montgomeryville. They claimed that they are very different from the Circuit Cities and Best Buys and Tweeters. Their top installer has been there for 20 years and has won many awards. They are close to Philadelphia and regularly install for Exotic car dealers...ie Lambos, Ferraris, Porsche, etc.
For $599.00, they suggest they can install a Sirius radio right in the ashtray. It would be totally concealed, and it would sacrifice the insert ashtray, lighter, etc. However, the wooden flip up cover would be totally intact. That's OK with me...many cars today don't even come with ashtrays and lighters. They also claim that they can install the antenna inside the car (hidden) and it would be unencumbered finding a signal.
This all sounds interesting to me, and I think I'll pull the trigger on it. Of course, I have the usual concerns: I don't want anything just taken apart unnecessarily and improperly. AND I certainly don't want to disturb the future value of the car.
My 2003 (just purchased it before Christmas this year) just turned 8000 miles. Just because they say they can do it, doesn't mean they can do it to my satisfaction. So, I'm a little hesitant on it. Do you think it can be done?

When they mentioned "sacrificing the ashtray & lighter", are they talking about permanently or could they be re-installed at a later date?
I am also curious to see how it turns out. I really miss satellite in this car.

I will....on March 9th or 10th, I'll write on this forum. I really am looking forward to this. The "ashtray" installation seems logical and very "re-saleable" when the time comes to trade the car in. It is out of sight, and somewhat like a very, very custom way to do satellite radio. Additionally, $599.00 seems quite reasonable for everything!
