SL/R230: Aftermarket Sound System

Aftermarket Sound System
Hi,
Do any of you have an aftermarket sound system in your SL? I have a 2004 SL500 and do not like the existing system at all. Just wondering if some of you could share your setup and experiences with it.
Thanks!

I have a 03' SL with the bose system (i dont know if its the same as the 04'....proberly is tho) but i love it and would never think of putting a aftermarket system in it........as for my G55 system is harmon kardon and i think it sucks the SL has a way better system than that.....what would you wanna do tho...add more base?? or completely change out the system???

i'm thinking of changing out the whole system. i really don't like the nav system either. my wife has the Lexus SC430 and her nav and sound system are 10 times better. wish Mercedes would get it together in those areas. they are WAY behind in that arena.

Always has been that way. I actually think the system is pretty good. I don't expect to have great fidelity in the SL when the top is down. So, the Bose is fine. I think you'll find changing the system in the SL will run some big bucks. You have to change the speakers as well as the deck and you'll lose the nav and some steering wheel functions. The SC430 is a nice car and was a consideration but the styling and performance of the SL far outweighed some of the comfort features the SC offered.

Yes the SL's sound system does lack. And yes the nav does lack also compared to the SC. But the SC needs a NAV and a Sound System to help sell it. a lot of people would get an SL w/o a system at all and be happy with it, can you say that about an SC...doubtful.
Anyways a good custom audio specialty shop can make it sound better.

Actually, the stereo is secondary consideration. My main consideration, THE DRIVE. It's all about the driving experience. This includes road feel and handling. Last thing, I think most people will agree the SL is a more attractive vehicle, hands down.
